Double circular loop via the Seilh footbridge

Here is a route consisting of two circular loops linked by a footbridge crossing the Garonne. The start and finish are in Seilh, near Toulouse, and can be reached either by car (car-sharing car park less than 100 m away) or by public transport from any station in the city of Toulouse (Aussonnelle bus stop less than 100 m away). The route is flat, mostly along shaded paths and often close to the water. It is therefore a typical family walk, but with plenty of charm, particularly when crossing the Garonne on the footbridge.

Description of the walk

Arrive at the Aussonnelle roundabout in Seilh and take the slip road leading to the car-sharing car park. For access by bus, see the ‘Practical Information’ section.

(S/E) Head towards L’Aussonnelle and turn right onto the path that runs alongside the river for about 2 km before veering off to the right to reach the banks of the Garonne and the footbridge spanning the river.

(1) Climb the steps of the footbridge and cross the Garonne.

(2) Take the path on the left which follows the right bank of the Garonne for about 1000 m. Ignore all paths or tracks branching off to the right.

(3) Turn right to follow the path across the fields.

(4) Take the track on the right to enter a wooded area. Then follow the edge of the woods and head straight on at the junction to arrive at the edge of a fishing lake.

(5) Head left to go round it, pass between the two lakes, then continue to the right to complete the loop and join the Chemin Communal de la Beauté. Turn left at a 90° angle and reach a junction at a small car park.

(6) Turn right and return to the footbridge.

(2) Cross the Garonne again.

(1) Turn left to begin the final section of the circular route on the left bank of the Garonne.

(7) Go under the M63 bridge (Route du Bac) and continue straight on along the Garonne until you reach a picnic area with tables and benches.

(8) Turn slightly right to enter Seilh via Chemin de la Bouscassié, which then leads onto a tarmac road with houses on the left. Continue uphill to a roundabout.

(9) Turn right and follow the path that runs alongside the tarmac road known as Chemin de la Vieille Côte, then joins it.

(10) Continue left towards the Aussonnelle roundabout, cross the Route du Bac (M63) at the pedestrian crossing and return to the carpool car park (S/E).

Notes

To reach the start of the walk by public transport from Toulouse

Go to the Tisseo website and calculate a route from your home to the “Aussonnelle” stop in Seilh (see Figures 1 and 2). In this example, we have assumed a departure from Capitole metro station. The journey involves the metro, tram and bus. It takes approximately 1 hour. This may seem long, but travelling by car is hardly any better, depending on traffic and roadworks.

As this route is not signposted, the Visorando map is essential and the Visorando app is recommended.

Worth a visit

Note that you can finish this walk with a picnic by the banks of the Garonne at the point (8).
