Description of the walk

Easy parking at Port Jean, near the Erdre.

(S/E) With your back to the Erdre, retrace your steps and take the stony path on your left which climbs through Cyrille’s vineyards. Cross the vineyards to the end and arrive at a small hamlet. Follow the small tarmac road as it winds its way.

(1) Turn left and take the path running parallel to the access lane to the Domaine de la Couronnerie. Cross through the undergrowth and head down to the banks of the Erdre. Enjoy the view of the river! Continue to the right along the path that runs alongside the riverbank. Follow the path which climbs quite steeply to the right up to the edge of the cultivated field. Turn left and walk along the edge of the field.

(2) Join a small tarmac road by turning right and walk along the boundary walls of the neighbouring properties.

(3) Cross the road from Sucé-sur-Erdre to Carquefou (M37) with care and head for the hamlet of La Riaudière.
Continue along the path until you reach the large Souchais housing estate.

(4) Enter the housing estate following the yellow markings. A path winds its way through the estate’s newer houses and leads to the Charbonneau wetland, a designated walking area.

(5) Follow the stream to Étang Hervé and head towards the La Fleuriaye roundabout (near the Super U supermarket).

(6) Cross the roundabout and continue straight ahead along Boulevard des Européens. Turn right and follow the edge of the marshes and built-up areas along the yellow-marked path, which branches off to the right as it leaves the banks of the stream.

(7) Turn left onto theGR® which takes you to the Port Jean car park (S/E).

A very beautiful hike. Very varied landscapes and atmospheres: Port Jean and its boats, the vineyards, the wild banks of the Erdre, old villages and also marshes. The buildings rising up from the ground near the Hervé pond bring us back to "civilisation", as does the housing estate on the right, along a path running alongside a palm tree plantation.
Regarding the route,
we took a wrong turn between points 3 and 4 near a wayside cross and retraced our steps to pass it on our left. It might be worth mentioning this wayside cross, which is a real landmark on the route. When we arrived at the stump, following the route rather than the markings, we took a path to the left between and behind the first houses. This path led us to the Charbonneau pond. We went around this pond to return to La Fleuriaye and continue the route.

A very beautiful hike!
This hike is also called "Between Land and Rivers" and has specific signage.
However, the Visorando app is essential as the markings are missing in several places.
A very beautiful walk with varied and beautiful landscapes, enjoyed as a couple with two children aged 8 and 13.

Hello, I’m glad you enjoyed the walk. I must have passed you last Saturday as I did it again myself. I understand why you were unsure between points 4 and 5, as this section is in the Souchais housing estate and there are numerous paths that aren’t easy to describe. You can follow the slope down towards Charbonneau Park and its lake before rejoining the Fleuriaye. Enjoy your walks in the Carquefolien region.

The walk is absolutely stunning! The scenery is varied and breathtaking! It’s perfectly doable with a dog. We got a bit lost between points 4 and 5, but thanks to the GPS we were able to find the path again in no time!

A lovely walk with a variety of landscapes. But you need to be very careful:

  • the official ‘entre terre et rivière’ signposting isn’t present everywhere and is sometimes hard to find;
  • the route provided was probably mapped out on a map and is very simplified in certain sections of the route.

But with plenty of care and a bit of observation, this hike is a pleasure to undertake.
