Description of the walk

Start: Place de la Liberté in La Jarne, opposite the church.

(S/E) Take the footpath that goes round the square, following the stream (the Otus) and Rue de L'Otus.

(1) Cross the wooden bridge and take Rue du Harbourg opposite. At the bend, take the small alley opposite towards the school’s traffic lights. Cross the road and follow a footpath to the right to the car park next to the school complex.

(2) Turn left onto Rue du Fief de Chuze, then take a small alley straight ahead which joins Chemin des Trainelles. Follow this path on the right until the end. Ignore the path leading left towards the SNCF pylon and turn right towards Route de La Jarrie, D204.

(3) Turn right towards the village, then take the second left, Rue de la Croix Perrine. You will reach the D939, which runs through La Jarne. Follow it to the left, then 70 metres further on, turn left into Rue des Bonnelles.

(4) At the last housing estate (Lotissement du Fief Girard Sud), turn right into Rue du Passage de Garde. At the end of the square roundabout, a footpath leads to the D939. Cross it and continue straight on into Avenue des Mouettes, which leads into Chemin des Tournesols.

(5) At the end, turn left and head slightly uphill towards Salles-sur-Mer. At the top of the hill, turn right, then right again 200m further on. A grassy path leads back down towards La Jarne. At the end of the path, turn right towards the village. Pass in front of the village hall (Salle Mélusine), then the sports ground.

(6) Just after the gym (green), turn left, cross the car park to reach Rue Pierre de Coubertin. Take the first right, Rue du Pigeonnier, then immediately left onto Impasse des Roitelets.

(7) A small alley on the right leads to a car park, from which a second alley branches off to the left. Turn right, then left, and you’ll come out onto Rue du Grand Clos, which you should follow to the end. Turn left into Rue de Buzay, cross Rue de Chatelaillon (D111), heading towards Château de Buzay.

(8) 300m past the château, turn right towards the Club Hippique, then immediately afterwards, right into Rue de la Petite Jarne. This leads into Rue de Châtelaillon, which you take on the left. At the roundabout by the pharmacy, follow Rue Nationale (D939) to the right.

(9) Take a small alleyway (Chemin des Amoureux) on the right, 200m further on, opposite Chemin des Hibiscus. Cross the Otus bridge and turn left into Rue des Quatre Diable. Continue straight on along Rue Vivonne, which takes you back to the starting point, Place de la Liberté (S/E).

The walk begins with a beautiful dolmen. The stroll along the farm tracks is particularly pleasant in spring, thanks to the interplay of colours between the yellow of the rapeseed fields and the soft green of the wheat fields
The second part takes us on a tour of the village’s heritage, with its castle, golf course, water sports centre, charming houses and Romanesque church

Hello,
Route completed on 23/01/2025.
Best done outside the winter season; the Chemin des Trainelles is a bit tricky.
From point 5, paths through the fields! Between points 5 and Salles/Mer: fair.
The grassy path back towards La Jarne is very muddy, even impassable for almost 2 km.
Point 7: after crossing the D111, there is a footpath on the left running parallel to the road past Château Buzay. (Safer: vehicles passing by).

A pleasant town-and-countryside route; we’ll do it again when the weather’s fine.
Best regards

The only points of interest on this walk are Buzay Castle and the old village of La Jarne; the rest consists of 30% housing estates and 40% uninteresting agricultural plains. There was a minor difficulty caused by flooding, forcing us to take a long detour (2 km) to avoid a huge puddle.

A beautiful dolmen at the start. A pleasant walk, though the first third along farm tracks and grassy paths is a bit long.
It’s always nice to walk through the village and its narrow lanes. An interesting stretch past Buzay Castle, the golf course and the equestrian centre.

It starts off a bit monotonous at first, but then becomes very interesting, with its castle, its history (explained on information boards) and its diversity.

A rather uninteresting walk, passing through a housing estate under construction, flat land with no trees or houses as we headed towards Salles, so we stopped the walk at point 6 and headed straight back to the starting point...
