Parking is available behind the town hall in Soutzmatt.
(S/E) Take Rue des Boulangers to Saint-Sébastien Church, then follow Rue du Premier Régiment de Cavalerie to Rue de la Forêt.
(1) Follow the red diamond markings and take the Chemin de Croix, which leads to Sainte-Marie Chapel in Schaefertal.
(2) Follow the yellow disc trail markers, which cross a forest path three times, until you reach a junction with a forest path marked with yellow cross trail markers.
(3) Leave the yellow disc markings and turn right, following the yellow cross markings and the Schoenenberg forest path. At the fork, continue to the left and, after a long climb, the path leads downhill to the Col du Bannstein.
(4) Cross the D40 and continue for a few dozen metres, then turn right onto the Thanwiller forest path marked with a blue triangle. Follow this path until you reach a hairpin bend to the right.
(5) At this right-hand bend, continue on the left towards the Kaltenbach ponds, before climbing up to the ruins of the former Schwarzenthann convent.
(6) After visiting the ruins, leave the Blue Triangle markings and follow the Klosterrain wine trail (concrete in places). It crosses the Muhlmattenbach stream, then continue straight on to reach Wintzfelden on Rue des Vosges. Turn right towards Wintzfelden church with its lapidarium containing remains of Schwarzenthann convent.
(7) After the church at the crossroads with Rue de Soultzmatt, descend to the right towards the football stadium. After the village exit sign, leave a path on the right and, a hundred metres further on, turn right to reach the hamlet of Thanviller. Cross the hamlet, the road bends to the left and arrives at a road (monument on the left).
(8) Turn right and follow the yellow disc markings. Continue past the last houses in Thanviller at the edge of the forest until you reach the next junction with a path leading off to the left.
(9) Take this path on the left, known as the Schafbuckel, marked with yellow discs. After a right-hand bend, it heads south-east to the Romanian cemetery at Gauchmatt at the junction with the D40.
(10) Turn left towards Soultzmatt along the road, walk alongside the cemetery (on your right), then leave the road and follow the forest path marked with a blue triangle on the right, which runs alongside the football pitch and passes in front of the Langenstein stone.
(11) After about 100 metres, leave the path and follow the Blue Ring trail on the left, which gradually moves away from the path and leads to a place called Grossfels.
(12) After the rock, descend to reach the Allée, which passes in front of the Sainte-Lucie Chapel on the right and then joins the start of the Chemin de Croix taken on the way there. Turn left and return to the starting point via the same route as on the way there (S/E).
