Departure in front of the school in Saint-Haon-le-Châtel (car park).
(S) With the town hall opposite, turn left. At Place de Verdun, head north on Chemin du Crozet, which descends to the cemetery (ignore the turnings on the right).
(1) Take the path on the left that descends to the stream. At Chemin de Garnier, turn right towards the hamlet.
(2) Turn left onto Chemin des Burins and follow it to the village of Saint-Haon-le-Vieux. Turn right, pass in front of the shop "l'Étal" and then turn left towards the school building.
(3) Walk past the school, then the cemetery, heading straight ahead. Continue to Chemin de la Prévoté.
(4) Turn right until you reach an acute-angled crossroads.
(5) Turn left and head north towards Champagny. After crossing a small stream, cut across a road and keep going straight ahead. After passing a beautiful pond on your left, then a smaller one on your right, you will reach Champagny. Continue straight ahead until you reach a crossroads.
(6) Keep left towards the entrance to Champagny Castle (historical sign). Continue along the castle path, straight ahead until you reach Moulin Juste.
(7) After the last house in the hamlet, turn left onto the path that crosses the vineyards to the hamlet of Grands Villards, turning left, then right and then left again.
(8) At the road, turn right, cross the D4 and take the Chez Robert road opposite until you reach the house.
(9) Turn left onto Chemin des Vignes and follow it until you reach the Ruisseau de la Fontanière stream.
(10) Walk up through the vineyards, passing two houses on your right to reach Chemin de Montplaisir.
(11) Keep left, then take the path on the right which leads directly to Place des Martyrs de Vingré, at the bottom of the village of Ambierle.
(12) Cross the square and head towards the road going uphill. Climb up into the village via the main street on the right. Go around the priory and the church, which are well worth a visit.
(13) Then head north on Rue Saint-Vincent, then take the first street on the left to the cemetery.
(14) Turn right onto Rue Saint-Claude and arrive below the car park.
(15) Keep left on Chemin des Écoles, which leads to Trévelins, turning left when you reach the road.
(16) In the hamlet, turn left to climb Sentier des Bufinants and continue straight ahead until you reach Route de la Sentinelle.
(17) Keep left on a path, which you follow after leaving Chemin des Servajeans until the next crossroads.
(18) Turn right onto the path that leads to the D52, then follow it to the right to reach Croix Noailly. Begin the descent of the D52 and you will come to a fork.
(19) Take the shortcut on the left, Chemin du Soula, which leads back to the D52.
(20) Continue on the left until you reach the next forest path, which climbs to the left.
(21) Take this path. Turn right. After the left turn, you will come to a fork.
(22) Take the small path that descends to the right to the pretty wash house on the Teyssonne. You can take a short detour to have a snack or a coffee in the village of Saint-Bonnet-des-Quarts.
(23) Otherwise, turn left, follow the river, then a pond, and keep to the right after the hamlet of La Garde. You will come to a crossroads and the start of an uphill climb.
(24) Start the climb to Croix Garnat on the left.
(25) Cross the D41 and continue straight ahead through meadows and forests. The path climbs 400 metres over 3 km to reach the pass at an altitude of 820 metres.
(26) Turn right. After a short descent, leaving the hamlet of Chez Tachon on your left, you will reach the road to follow on the right to Les Leat (pronounced Les Biés), where you can stop at the Gîte de La Cascanide (large square 3-storey house on the left) (E).
