Parking at Place Saint-Roch at the entrance to the village. Note the village map, which lists all the buildings worth seeing and indicates that you can visit them in 30 minutes by following the arrows. Be aware that it will take longer to see everything. You can choose to visit before the walk or, as I suggest, at the end of the route.
(S/E) Go down Chemin de la Fontaine Condé, cross Route de Pipart and take Chemin Rouge opposite. Continue uphill on this main path until you reach a fork.
(1) Take the yellow-marked path downhill to the right. Cross the valley until you reach an iron cross. Go up the path on the left, which turns into a tarmac road, Chemin des Mures. You will arrive at an intersection with a street.
(2) For a round trip, turn left. Walk a few metres and turn left onto the road towards the oratory. At the next intersection, take the unpaved path that continues uphill.
(3) On your right, in a small tree-lined square just before a house, you will see a bench. Approach it to discover a reproduction of the Lourdes grotto. Retrace your steps back to the intersection.
(2) Continue straight downhill. At the monumental stone cross, take the street on the right and arrive at Saint-Haon-le-Vieux. Pass the church and the small square below. At the war memorial, turn right.
(4) Go down the small tarmac road, Chemin des Burins. At the junction with Rue de Garnier, turn right and then, a little further on, take the yellow-marked dirt track on the left which leads up to a tarmac road.
(5) Do not follow the yellow markings but turn right. The street climbs past the cemetery. Continue climbing, keeping to the right, to reach Saint-Haon-le-Chatel. Turn right onto Rue de la Boaterie.
(6) Follow the route as indicated by the signs in the village. Continue along the lane on the right and climb the steps behind the church to enjoy the view. Come back down and continue along the lane to the entrance of the church, which is worth a visit. Walk along the side of the church to return to the previous crossroads.
(6) Take the lane on the right and turn left then right to see the town hall.
(7) Turn right to pass under a medieval gate. Go up the street, then turn left towards the building occupied by a notary. Go down the stairs on the left and through the Porte de la Poterne.
(8) Turn left and take Montée Charles VII to the fork you passed earlier.
(7) Turn right just before the town hall and go down Rue de la Fleur de Lys, turning left at the end.
(9) Turn right and visit the medieval garden. Go down and take Passage des Tonneliers to Rue Frédéric Noelsas. See Maison Maillan below on the left. Turn around and go back up to Rue Jean Darcon, then turn left.
At the end of this street, turn left to return to the car park (S/E).
