From Mormoiron to the Notre-Dame des Anges chapel

Climbing the hill of Notre-Dame des Anges from the typical village of Mormoiron offers a magnificent view of the Giant of Provence (Mont Ventoux). The varied route includes an ascent that resembles a mid-range mountain. The asphalt descent on the return journey takes you back to the village of Mormoiron, facing the Ventoux, with all the villages at the foot of the Ventoux in view: Mormoiron, Flassan, Bedoin, Caromb, Villes sur Auzon, etc.

Description of the walk

Start: Parking at the Mormoiron village hall car park.GPS: N 44.065917° / E 5.179545°

(S/E) Turn right into the road named "La venue de Mazan".
Follow this road uphill past the local school and then the gendarmerie.

(1) Just before reaching the top of the hill, turn left onto the stony Chemin des Fours, downhill through the vineyards, following the signs for the GRP® des Pierres de Vaucluse.

(2) Reach the D942 and follow it to the right. Follow the road very carefully for 200 m along the shoulder. Be careful, as this road is very busy and visibility is poor.
At the entrance to Moulins des Gypes, cross the road and turn left into Chemin de Saint-Montant, crossing a bridge. Reach Mas de Sainte-Croix and turn left then right. Follow the GRP® to Les Embœufs.

(3) Cross the farmyard and follow the wide track to the left. Then turn right onto the stony path leading uphill. Reach a small lookout called Les Petits Bœufs, with a sign pointing in several directions.

(4) Follow the signs for Mazan. Follow the rising path to the Chapelle Notre-Dame des Anges.

(5) After reaching the 16th-century building, start downhill on a wide, stony road to the Domaine Viticole des Anges.

(6) Turn left along the road into the Auzon valley. Turn left onto the Route de Canadel.

(7) Cross the D942 with caution (busy road) and go straight ahead. At the first fork in the road, turn left onto the rising Chemin du Fournet. Continue past the fire station and then the cemetery. Ignore the adjacent roads to reach the heart of Mormoiron village.

(8) Exit onto Avenue des Roches Blanches. Turn right, then left, into the "La venue de Mazan" once again, and follow it to the car park. (S/E)

It's a lovely walk, with no difficulties, just a little hesitation after point 3 because there were no markers for a while, and the path wasn't always obvious, but by following the direction of the chapel we saw a little further down, we found it without any problems. A picnic on the bench in the sun facing Mont Ventoux, what a treat! It's true that the descent is less pleasant because it's almost entirely on tarmac, but that doesn't spoil the whole experience.
Thank you Kerheol!

Easy walk with lovely views over the villages. The chapel is nice but two 5G antennas spoil the place.

A varied walk with different types of path. The start and finish are on tarmac, but this is soon forgotten. The climb is very pleasant, with shady sections and already some lovely views. The view from the chapel is well worth the effort (Mont Ventoux and small towns).
We used the GPS. We did it in 2? hours, stopping for 20 minutes at the chapel.
Thank you for this route.

Hello,
Your comment about the village square is absolutely right. I'm going to rectify this by postponing the start from the village hall.
As for the rest, I'm very surprised by your negative opinion. The scenery is simply fabulous.
You also say that you had difficulty following the route. I am of course ready to rectify or add to it if you indicate where there is a problem.
Sincerely

Parking in the village square is limited to two hours in the blue zone. A little further along the route, there is a free car park opposite the village hall.
