Description of the walk

The trail starts from the car park in the centre of Mittlach, opposite the Valneige hotel and restaurant.
If there are no spaces available, you can park further away on Rue Erbersch.

(S/E) Continue along Rue Erbersch towards the bottom of the valley, north-west. Pass a road on your right and continue for a little over 50 metres.

(1) Turn right onto Chemin du Koepfle and follow the Blue Triangle signs. Climb steeply and pass through a beautiful forest to reach a wide path at a fork.

(2) Continue right for 100 metres, then left, following the Blue Triangle signs towards Kerbholz. Reach a sharp left turn on a wide path.

(3) Continue straight ahead on the path with the Blue Cross towards Kerbholz. After a few hundred metres, you will arrive at the Kerbholz chalet (closed).

(4) Turn right, heading north-west, onto the Blue Rectangle trail towards Lac du Schiessrothried.
Please note that the trail is easy at the beginning, but after a few hundred metres, it becomes technical with sections requiring you to hold onto cables and metal steps. However, for well-equipped and trained individuals, the trail is manageable. It is well maintained.
In wet weather, it can also become dangerous, with slippery rocks and roots.

(5) Continue on the Blue Rectangle trail. Pass through a scree slope composed of large rocks for about 200 metres, then through needles, but the trail no longer has any technical sections. There is a sign indicating that you should hurry due to the risk of falling rocks.
After the technical sections, continue on the Blue Rectangle trail. Turn right for a 100 m round trip to the viewpoint.

(6) Then return to the previous fork and continue downhill.

(7) At the fork, turn left onto the Blue Triangle path and head towards the ridges to reach a wide path and a bench.

(8) Turn right towards the Hohneck inn. Arrive at the top of the hike (altitude 1,363 m), at the Hohneck inn.

(9) Descend onto theGR® 5 (Red Rectangle) towards Schiessrothried and reach a crossroads.

(10) Turn right and continue along the Red Rectangle path towards Schiessrothried until you reach the Schiessroth farmhouse inn.

(11) Go around it and continue downhill to the right on the Red Rectangle trail until you reach Schiessrothried Lake. Cross the dam.

(12) Descend via theGR® 5, Red Rectangle, to Lac du Fischboedle.

(13) Turn left and follow the wide path marked with Red Rectangles for about 200 metres towards Mittlach/Metzeral.

(14) Turn right onto the beautiful Wormsa Trail, marked with a Red Rectangle. Cross several wooden bridges, scree slopes and beautiful landscapes. You will come to a fork (altitude 551 m).

(15) Follow the path on the right, marked with a Red Rectangle, which leads to a carriage road.

(16) Follow it to the right towards Mittlach, marked with a Red Rectangle. After a few hundred metres, the path turns into a road. Follow it to the Valneige car park and Rue Erbersch (S/E).

A very beautiful hike with stunning views.
All the trails are open, so it's easy to find your way around.
Good shoes are necessary and you need to pace yourself.
Be careful not to go in rainy weather as it is too dangerous (rocks, roots).
I would definitely recommend this for experienced walkers.
However, the route is 17.5 km long

An absolutely perfect hike that comes highly recommended. It's a bit challenging, but the effort is so rewarding with these magnificent landscapes and the sight of chamois just before you reach Hohneck.

Hello, hike completed in the direction of Mettlach Hohneck via the Fischboedle and Schiessrothried lakes. Then return via the same route (gusts of wind and very poor visibility). Unfrequented route / weather conditions.

Already familiar with Wormspel and the ridges, and short on time, we turned right at point 7 to go directly to point 12.
This shortened version covered 10.5 km in 4 hours and 20 minutes (at a "normal" pace with a few breaks) but was no less interesting!

In short, a superb hike with detailed descriptions – top notch!
