(S) Retrace your steps from the previous day’s stage, turning successively right onto the D70, the D199 and the ascending path after the Bérangeon farm to reach the junction, point 8 of the first stage.
(1) Continue up the steep slope ahead and, after a few hairpin bends, reach the Pas du Grand Échaillon.
(2) Turn onto the path on the left; after the summer shelter, leave the path and turn onto the one on the right, then reach a fork.
(3) Keep to the left-hand path and rejoin the D199; follow it straight ahead for 100 m. On the right, ignore the first path and, 50 m further on, take the Route Forestière de Pissenible which climbs up the bottom of the ravine. On this straight road (south), ignore the side paths. After 1 km and a wide right-hand bend, followed by a hairpin bend, head in the opposite direction to the left (east). After 250 m, reach a junction.
(4) Keep to the path on the right which leads to the D199. Follow it carefully, keeping to the left-hand side and then the right. When you reach the tunnel, bypass it by taking the path on the left which, shortly afterwards, winds its way up a slope. Protected by a low wall, follow the left-hand side of the road before reaching the Col de la Bataille and its viewpoint (elevation 1313 m).
(5) Cross the road and take the path opposite. At the fork, 60 m further on, continue straight ahead on almost level ground. After 2 km, you’ll reach open ground among the rocks (elevation 1302 m). At the fork, ignore the dead-end path on the left and, opposite, after 400 m, reach a junction. Stay on the left-hand path to reach the Pas du Gouillat junction (elevation 1328).
(6) Leave the path and climb up to the ridge via the path straight ahead (south). At the highest point, marked by the large metal cross of Ambel, a magnificent panorama opens up (elevation 1336). Continuing along the ridge, reach the Pas de Garde and a fork (elevation 1320).
(7) Ignore the path descending to the right and continue along the one opposite. Climb the ridge and reach a junction (elevation 1384).
(8) Follow the path down to the right, which passes by the Pierre Plate viewpoint.
(9) Further down, it reaches a junction at the entrance to the hamlet of Les Tonils (alt. 695 m).
(10) Turn left and join the Chemin des Bournelliers at the bottom of the Ruisseau de Lardenne valley (alt. 670 m). Take it to the right, walking straight through the hamlet of Pierroux without taking any side streets. You will reach a junction opposite the Omblèze town hall (alt. 670 m).
(11) Take the Chemin des Blaches on the left and cross the small bridge. In the hamlet of Les Blaches, turn left and, as you leave, keep to the right, then continue straight on along the row of trees. Cross a stream and climb the path in the hollow of a small valley, cutting across the hairpin bends as you please. Reach the Col des Ayes junction at the foot of a mast (elevation 1029 m).
(12) Join the GRP® marked trail and head right (north-west) to reach the Col d'Anse (944m).
(13) At the junction, take the path down to the left, which avoids the valley floor by winding along its left-hand side. At the bottom, reach a fork in front of the Flachet farm. Keep to the right and, 100 m further on, ignore the path on the right (north-west), then go round the farm to take its access path.
(14) Descend a few hairpin bends and, at the X-junction, join the Route d’Ansage. Follow the branch opposite, ignoring the one on the right as well as the path on the left. Cross the hamlet of Ansage. At the junction, turn left against the flow of traffic onto the Chemin de la Druise to reach the car park. (E)
