Coming from Carcassonne, cross the village of Marseillette and at the end of the village, turn left onto Chemin de l'Étang, which leads to the lock, the starting point for this short, easy walk. Leave your vehicle on the side of the road near the lock.
(S/E) Pass between the lock and the lock keeper's house and follow the towpath for about 850 metres, with the canal on your left.
(1) Leave the canal by turning right onto the path which, after 150 metres, leads to a cross. Continue straight ahead for 650 metres, ignoring the dirt tracks on either side. At the crossroads, continue to the right until you reach the next crossroads.
(2) Leave the path on the right and, immediately after, the dead-end path also on the right (see the old hydroelectric factory building, now in ruins, in the distance). Continue along the tarmac path for 350 metres.
(3) Cross the small bridge over the South Canal and immediately turn right along the edge of the canal (200 metres) until you reach the old hydroelectric plant.
(4) Apart from the ruins of the hydroelectric plant, there is still the outlet of the underground canal that brings fresh water used to irrigate the entire dried-up pond. Walk along the edge of the basin and continue opposite, still following the southern canal on top of the dyke, which overlooks the vineyards and apple orchards on the left. After 750 metres, the path joins the tarmac road, which you follow to the right for 450 metres.
(5) At the Saint-Pierre farm, turn right onto the road that climbs slightly. There are a few vehicles on this road, so be very careful for the 800m that take you back to the starting point (S/E).
