Access from the village of Douzens: take the small road called Chemin des Argalats.
Park at the end of the road, after the tunnel under the motorway.
The road is passable as far as the small car park in the woods.
(S/E) Take the path at the end of the car park, then the path going up to the right, leaving the path that continues into the Combe du Gravier.
N.B. An alternative route is possible by following the Combe du Gravier path, as the two paths meet before reaching the ridge.
(1) Keep to the right, ignoring the paths on the left that climb up from Combe du Gravier.
This climb, which is sometimes rocky, offers beautiful views of the Aude plain and the Montagne Noire, with lovely passages through the undergrowth dotted with beautiful box trees. You will come out onto an open area and join theGR®36.
(2) Follow it to the left and climb straight up to the summit of Montagne d'Alaric to reach the watchtower and enjoy the panoramic view.
(3) Descend a few metres to take the path along the southern ridge, following theGR® sign pointing to Lagrasse on the left. Follow this path along the ridge towards the Saint-Michel de Nahuze priory, a former place of worship of which two sections of wall remain. Enjoy the view of the Orbieu Valley, the Corbières Massif and the Pyrenees mountain range.
(4) Shortly before the priory, take the path downhill to the right. Watch out for ruts in some places. The path ends by following a valley and leads to a small, quiet country road.
(5) Take the D114 on the right. Pass the hamlet of Les Illes to reach the place called Lodge La Fraissinède, which is indicated by a sign.
(6) Go around the tennis court, then the lodges. At the end of the circular route, turn sharply onto the path that climbs to the right. You will reach the crossroads of a path leading to Crès de la Heath.
(7) Follow the path on the right and begin a beautiful climb with views of the entire mountain. The priory visited earlier in the hike is visible on the right. After a pretty stretch through the woods, you will arrive at a small clearing.
(8) Turn left onto the path and follow it to join theGR®36. The path is marked by hunting posts.
(9) Take theGR®36to the right for about a hundred metres and then leave it to take the path on the left where a sign indicates Combe Migère.
(10) Follow the yellow-marked trail, descending along the valley on a rocky path.
(11) At the end of the valley, you will come out into an open area. Continue straight ahead (north) along the track that leads to the vineyards. Leave the yellow markings and rejoin the road. At the road, turn right to return to the car park (S/E).
