Park in the small car park at Lac de Barbaira.
(S/E) Walk along the left side of the lake, go around it and then turn left at the hairpin bend. Keep left at the crossroads and continue along the road for about 300 metres.
(1) At the start of the bend towards La Tuilerie, take a path on the right that runs alongside a field at the edge of the forest. At the end of the field, the path leads into the great Alaric fault, passing between standing rocks. Continue between the cliffs until you reach a sign indicating the site of the Prieuré Saint-Jean. Take the path on the right to visit the ruins.
(2) Prieuré Saint Jean with a large stone table, ideal for a picnic. Return to the main path and climb straight up towards the cliffs to the east. You will reach a passageway that allows you to cross them easily. Discover a pleasant plateau covered with flowers in spring.
(3) Climb the last hill to reach the highest point of Cachoche, marked by a cairn.
(4) Beautiful view of the Pyrenees, Pic du Canigou, etc. Descend first through the heath, noting the hunting hides perched above, then into the forest. Reach the fork at the Combe Noire ravine. Ignore the path on the right that leads to Roquenegade. Turn left to quickly reach another wider path.
(5) Continue left to elevation 274. The path overlooks the Blanquier stream.
(6) Turn left at the fork, then bear left again a hundred metres further on to go around the rocky summit and descend into the forest on the northern slope.
(7) Enjoy the view of Capendu and continue. Take two hairpin bends and then join a wide track in the forest.
(8) Follow it straight ahead, keep right at the next junction and continue straight on to the Lac de Barbaira car park (S/E).
