Description of the walk

The walk starts at the car park on Place de la Mairie, behind the church.

(S/E) On the road to Chambord, turn right, with your back to the church. Pass Rue du Docteur Aubry.

(1) Turn right onto Rue du Pont, cross the Cosson, then turn immediately right onto Rue de Morest. Pass Rue de Villeneuve, then the D177 on your right.

(2) Turn right onto the grassy track after the hamlet known as Les Quatre Vents. Ignore the various side roads.

(3) At the crossroads, turn right twice to follow the vineyard along the hard-packed track. Ignore the various adjacent turnings. The walking route curves to the left, then passes close to an old mill amongst the vineyards.

(4) At the ‘Les Landes’ farm, ignore the gravelled paths branching off to the left and right and continue straight on along a grassy path. This path turns right, then left, and crosses the D177. When you reach Rue de Beauvais, turn left to walk alongside the property via the track running parallel to the street.

(5) At the junction, turn right onto Rue de Saumery, then immediately turn left onto the grassy track, which offers a lovely view of Château Saumery on your right. Turn right at the T-junction to reach the Pavillon de la Chaussée.

(6) Turn left twice, cross the Cosson, and continue in the same direction, veering slightly to the left onto the Chaussée le Comte. Ignore the various turn-offs on either side. The walking route turns right onto Rue de Bracieux.

(7) At the fork in the road, turn right onto the tarmac road, which quickly becomes a stabilised dirt track. Leave the track on your left and turn right.

(8) At the T-junction, follow the stabilised track to the right, then turn left at the next crossroads and finally turn right. Pass through the gate as you approach the houses to reach Rue de Chatillon.

(9) Go round the cemetery and continue along the track running parallel to the Route de Chambord, then turn right onto the small track to rejoin the road and the church (S/E).

Worth a visit

In Huisseau-sur-Cosson, don’t miss the Church of Saint-Étienne and Saint-My http://www.huisseau.fr/P_TourismeEglise.... topped by a square bell tower with a hipped roof. To the west is the ‘caquetoir’, a wooden gallery, which is quite common in Sologne and Berry.
During the walk, you can see Saumery Castle, which is currently used as a psychiatric clinic.
Chambord Castle https://www.chambord.org/fr/.se is just a few kilometres away.
