Start in front of the Chaniers campsite on the banks of the Charente.
(S/E) With your back to the campsite, take the tarmac path heading north-west and continue to the railway line.
(1) Cross at the level crossing, then first turn right then left to cross the D24 with caution and take Rue de la Touche opposite. Pass in front of the tennis courts and follow this street, which turns left after Rue des Tournesol.
(2) Take a dirt track that descends to the right. When you reach the tarmac, leave the Prud'homme path that goes straight ahead, turn left and after about 300 m, turn right onto a path opposite Rue de la Tonnelle. Continue straight ahead, ignoring the paths on the right and left. The path ends at a small tarmac road.
(3) Turn right, then left towards Les Thibault and pass between the houses.
(4) Before passing under the high-voltage power line, turn left onto a dirt track that is not very visible at first and which descends towards Les Grandes Combes. The dirt track leads to a small semi-tarmac road. Turn right and pass by a sewage treatment plant located below.
(5) At the end of Chemin de Cognac, turn left onto the tarmac road, then left again onto Chemin des Métrelles towards Port Hublé. Please note: there is light traffic to Port Hublé (approximately 400 m). Continue along Rue Jacques Deroux, then go down a few steps on the right towards the Charente. Cross the D 24 again (please note: there is traffic, but there is a pedestrian crossing).
(6) Go under the railway line to reach the banks of the Charente. This is Port Hublé. Take the path on the left that runs alongside the Charente.
(7) After about 2.5 km, the path leaves the banks of the Charente and turns sharply left in front of a fence. Follow this dirt track for about 600 m to rejoin the path you took on the way there.
As soon as possible, turn right to get as close as possible to the river. Walk along the moorings for pleasure boats to return to the starting point (S/E).
Very good walk along the banks of the Charente
