From Bournazel to Mouzieys-Panens

This route takes you off the beaten track and marked trails, offering numerous viewpoints over the north side of Cordes-sur-Ciel. The path alternates between small hills and valleys. Quiet footpaths make you forget the sections of road you encounter.
A GPS is recommended as the route is largely unmarked. The markings you may see are from otherPR® orGR®36trails.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at Place de l'Église (Saint-Barthélémy) in Bournazel.

(S/E) From the wrought iron Calvary, walk past the church and cemetery. At the Mouzieys-Panens road, turn left. The road runs alongside the stadium, then a farm building, becomes Route de Touron and ends in a bend with a stone Calvary in front of Puech Gax.

GR - Red and White Markings

(1) Leave the stone cross and Puech Gax on your right and take theGR® trail that starts at this bend on the left. At the fork after passing under the power lines, take the left-hand path. The wide track leads to the road. Turn left and walk past the large farm, La Plaine.

(2) At the fork, leave the road and climb up the farm track that leads to La Couronne farm. At the bend, leave the farm on your left, continue straight ahead and leave the track to enter a narrow dirt path. The path ends at the road.

No markings, then occasionally yellow markings not assigned to this route.

(3) At the T-junction, turn right, ignoring the cross markings. After 100 metres, at the next four roads, cross and continue straight ahead towards Cantarrane le Haut. Note the remains of an old medieval building on the right. It is possible to scramble a little to get closer and visit the remains of the building.

(4) Ruins on the Cantarrane le Haut estate. Return to the road and continue to the right.

(5) In front of the ruins of Sainte-Lucie, leave the road and go up the dirt track on the right. This section is part of the "Capelle Sainte-Lucie" route, taken in the opposite direction to the signposts. The ruins of Sainte-Lucie have become a private residence and can only be admired from the outside. A wrought iron cross has been moved and taken to the next village.

(6) The village centre is the crossroads of several hiking trails. A signboard shows the Capelle Sainte-Lucie trail, on which part of this route takes place. The cross from the chapel seen earlier is fixed to the small square.

(7) The village tour includes a 200-metre round trip to a beautiful wash house and its adjoining well.

(6) After the visit, resume the route by taking the Mouzieys-Panens road.

(8) At the Calvary crossroads, turn right to go around the southern part of the village. N.B. The cross at the crossroads is hidden by a hedge of evergreen trees and is not very visible. Further on, ignore the road on the right that leads to the large bridge. At the fork, go up towards the church, pass on the right to reach the Château/Mairie de Mouzieys. Enjoy the view in front of the town hall. Continue the route by following part of the "Chemin de Turandel" path. At the crossroads, take the road opposite, which leads to a grassy path.

(9) Leave the "Chemin de Turandel" sign by turning left. Head north until you reach the road, ignoring the paths that cross it. At the road, turn right and then left at the next four roads. Turn right again at the first crossroads you come to. The local road passes under power lines; stay on the road, which makes a circular right turn in front of a house.

(10) 200 metres after passing the circular bend, take the dirt track on the right. This pretty, fragrant path leads to Puech Gax with the stone cross at the start.

(1). Take the Route de Touron opposite, which you took at the start of the route, and return to the cemetery and church of Bournazel (S/E).

Having travelled this route two or three times using different itineraries, I find it a pleasant journey with beautiful autumn colours and a view of Cordes. There are some roads, but nothing more. I particularly enjoy this route at this time of year as the paths are not muddy.

There are many sections of tarmac road, but the views of Cordes sur Ciel are well worth the detour.
The ruins at point no. 4 are interesting (a short detour that takes you off the road for a few minutes).
There is a pretty wash house at La Capelle Sainte Lucie and picnic tables in the village square.
We mainly used the GPX track, so we cannot comment on the description.

- Route with far too many tarmac roads. Map essential.
- Between 2 and 3, superb views of Cordes sur Ciel.
- At 10, take the path on the right, located 50 metres before the sharp right-hand bend. The path after the bend, as indicated in the description, is rarely used.
- There are picnic tables at La Capelle Ste-Lucie and Mouziens-Panens.

Very pleasant walk, magnificent view of Cordes.
Trust the map rather than the description, it's safer...

Too much driving, which is a shame. Beautiful views of Cordes. Crossing Mouziès Panens is not straightforward with the description provided.
