Description of the walk

Park at the Ronatiza-Pineta refuge on the HU-V-6402 road not far from Bielsa.
Signs indicate the start of several hikes and approximate times.

(S/E) Take the roadside path with white and red markings. Follow signs for "Cascade de la Larri".
You'll come to a campsite with a small bar, a ranger's house and picnic tables. There are also large information panels.

(1) Cross this area and follow a well-marked path along the torrent to the left, still heading towards the Larri waterfall. Reach the confluence of the Montaspro and Larri streams.

(2) To the right, begin a fairly steep ascent along the waterfall to reach its summit at the junction with the park's forestry trail.

(3) Turn right and cross a bridge over the waterfall. Continue uphill towards the Larri refuge. Reach the crossroads of a path cutting through the twists and turns of the road.

(4) Turn left and, just before the refuge, reach a sign explaining the various peaks in the area and, above all, how the glacier has been melting over the past century.

(5) Go down the road to return to the previous crossroads.

(4) Take the left-hand path, signposted Refugio de Pineta 2h. Descend into the woods on this steep but passable path.
Note: during winter time, this walk is marked by a large quantity of leaves, which makes some parts slippery, so take care all the same.
Rejoin the road at the Ermita de Nuestra Senora de Pineta.

(6) Turn left onto the road and quickly reach the first crossroads.

(1) Follow the same route as the outward journey, returning to the car park (S/E).

Notes

You will need all the equipment to protect yourself from the mountain weather.

Bring plenty of water too!

(3) A few metres after the bridge, there's a spring where you can cool off.

Worth a visit

The point of interest remains the waterfall and the arrival on the plateau next to the Larri refuge.

We completed this route on 15 June 2025. Since the previous comment, there has been severe flooding in this area, damaging the entire section from points 1 to 3, rendering it completely impassable. We had to walk about 2 to 3 kilometres off-trail to reach the forest path leading to the first waterfall and point 3, "Bridge over the waterfall". You will rejoin the circuit at this point. However, as this forest path is of no interest, it is probably better to start the circuit at the end and do a round trip. The walk itself is not very interesting, but the arrival on the plateau is simply magnificent. We encountered several herds of cows and horses.
There are no particular difficulties, but beware of crowds in high season (there is a large car park at the start of the walk).

Magnificent!!!
3€ for parking, don't forget your change.
Superb welcome by the people from the Spanish Park who ask us what we're going to do, and they give us advice and a photocopy card. (A little subliminal message to the Parc du Neouvielle to improve).
The path climbs steeply but it's easy.
We climbed up to the llanos de la laris.
Very beautiful, with a view of Mont Perdu.
We continued on to the cascade del cinca, very beautiful, but beware of the 10-metre chain climb, which is a bit hot for those sensitive to dizziness, but doable if you're breathing hard, like me.
Superb hike, it took us 4 hours to do it all, including a long lunch break.

Superb hike, especially the climb up the stairs to the waterfall bridge. I did this walk on 18 March and found it impossible to park at the Pineta refuge (too much snow and the man from the refuge told us it wasn't possible). We had to park further away, in the car park before the Pineta Nordic area. The route was difficult to identify at first (mainly because of the snow), and the steps were quite steep to walk along the waterfalls, but it's magnificent and well worth it! From point 3 to the descent, however, the path is extremely treacherous (with quite a bit of snow on our side, fortunately we had poles). As some of the other comments say, it might be more appropriate at the start of the summer season to do it the other way round.

The A-1-6 section is pleasantly flat and easy (GR11). Section 2 -3 is very steep and climbs up well-maintained steps. There are plenty of rest stops. The climb to the sheep pastures refuge is well worth it. On the way back, we took the rocky, dangerous and slippery path 4-6 down to the chapel. AVOID it, especially in wet weather. It's better to take the staircase path 3-2 back down. A very pleasant hike in beautiful surroundings and fine weather. Pretty waterfall at La Larri.

Thank you Marc for your comment. I'll be in the region in early September and can't wait to see all these places again.

I can confirm the comments made by 25MENAI. It's best to take the left-hand path at the start of the hike, as the climb from 2 to 3 is very steep, as is the descent from 4 to 6, where the path is very rocky and slippery. If you're doing the hike with young children, I'd advise you to retrace your steps from point 4, after climbing to point 5, where you arrive on a vast, magnificent grassy plateau. So avoid points 4 to 6 for younger children.

I know this whole area around Bielsa very well, where there are many walks, including this one to the "Llanos de la Lari", where I went two years ago.

This walk is not at all difficult. There is a variation that allows you to take your time and avoid the steep and noisy climb up to the waterfall. From point 2, follow the path to the west indicated by a dotted line on the Open Street Map and climb up to the forest track (HRP Variant 16.2). Turn right onto the track and return to point 3.

With its magnificent scenery, this walk is well worth doing if you're passing through the region.

For your information, the Spanish IGN has a very good website where you can prepare your outings. http://www.ign.es/iberpix2/visor/
