Park in the church square.
(S/E) Leave the village of Ornacieux by heading west (with the church behind you). When you reach a fork in the road, turn left (signposted "Ornacieux - 423m", towards Malatra/Saint-Jacques de Compostelle). Pass the wash house and continue straight ahead across the crossroads.
(1) Ignore the path that descends to the left into the Bièvre plain and continue along the small tarmac road.
(2) When you reach a cross (signposted "Malatra - 435m"), take the dirt track that climbs up to the right. When you reach a small road, turn right.
(3) Enter the woods and take the first path down to the left. This will lead you to an old mill that has been converted into a bed and breakfast. Between the two mill buildings, take the path that turns 90° to the right into the plain. Follow this path.
(4) When you reach a crossroads, turn left (you will see a clear stream on your right). Cross a small road and continue straight ahead (signposted "Chassagne - 370m"). The stream will now be on your left.
(5) At the sign for "Le Clapier - 365m", follow a small road to the left. Ignore a small road that comes up on your left.
(6) At the sign for "Lavoir de Penol - 365m", turn right onto a grassy path. Pass the sports fields and changing rooms to reach a gate blocking your path. Exit through the small gate on your right. Turn 45° to the right to reach the Étang du Marais.
(7) Head left (due west). From this point on, you will leave theGR® trail (white and red) that has accompanied you until now.
Take the path hidden by a hut. You are now entering the Marais de Faramans. Follow the path, which tends to slope northwards (to your right). You will cross one or two small bridges (depending on the options you choose).
When you reach a very high fence, turn left, cross a small bridge, wind your way between the ponds and arrive at the access lane to the Faramans golf course. Turn left and go through a gate.
(8) At a "Stop" sign, turn right. Continue along a small road (it's quite long...) and take the first road on the right (there is a metal cross).
(5) Signpost "Le clapier - 365m". You will find marker No. 5 and turn left onto the path you took on the way there. Cross the small road again and continue straight ahead.
(4) At the next crossroads, first turn left then right to continue in the same direction (in doing so, you will have left the path you took on the way there). The stream suddenly turns to the right, and so does your path. Follow it. It turns left and then right again, and you continue to follow it. A sign prohibits access to vehicles over 12 tonnes. You will come to a small pond, which you will pass.
(9) Sign: "Marais d'Ornacieux - 380m". Take the small road on the left. Ignore the road that comes from your right a little further on. When you reach a group of houses, take the beautiful path that climbs up to the right into the moraine and enters the forest (signposted "cul-de-sac"). It leads to a small road that you take on the right to enter Ornacieux/Balbins and return to the car park where you started (S/E).
