Description of the walk

Park near the town hall in Lans-en-Vercors.

(S/E) From Lans-en-Vercors Town Hall, go round the church on the right. Then take Avenue Léopold Fabre to the right (with your back to the Town Hall). Leave Lans. Continue to the hamlet of Les Jailleux, taking a left-hand bend after the junction with Route de l’Aigle.

(1) At a fountain on your right, marked with a sign saying “No bathing for animals”, turn right onto Impasse des Sources between the houses (nature trail). It becomes a path running between the forest and fields. Pass a ski lift arrival point. Arrive at the La Grande Fontaine crossroads (spring).

(2) Turn left uphill onto the yellow-green marked track, heading towards Combe du Crêt. Pass a group of houses with a “lodge” sign. Continue uphill for 150 m.

(3) Turn left uphill, following the yellow-green markings. Pass the 1176m mark.

(4) At the next fork, continue following the yellow-green markings to the right for 200 m.

(5) At another fork, follow the markings to the left round the bend. View of the pretty grassy Combe du Crêt.

(6) At the summit, turn right following the yellow-green and yellow-red markings ofthe GR® de Pays Tour des quatre Montagnes. At the car park (elevation 1262 m), stay on the marked path heading straight south uphill. At the Auberge des Allières, continue straight on until you reach a dirt track.

(7) Cross this track and take the path opposite which climbs straight up the slope. Yellow-green markings and Trail No. 10. Continue until you emerge from the forest, at a solitary boulder.

(8) Turn right onto a small, steeply ascending path for about 120 m. Orange markings, somewhat faded. Reach a large rock marked with an orange sign, with a stony path leading downhill to the right

(9) Climb up to the left over scree. The entrance to the Baume des Allières cave is behind a small embankment. Its location on the IGN map is inaccurate; the OpenStreetMap is slightly more accurate.
- The cave runs horizontally into the mountain. Be careful! Don’t go too far. No one will come looking for you here...

Retrace your steps to rejoin the path. Continue climbing to the left. At the small pass, continue to the left.

(10) At a solitary rock on the flat ground, follow the rather faded yellow arrow towards the path on the left. About a hundred metres further on, join the yellow-green markings and follow them due north, towards the left. Another 100 metres or so further on, at a fork marked with a post saying “Combe Oursière”, turn right, towards “La Sierre”. Yellow-green markings (but the path on the left is also marked in the same colour).
Descend the lovely Combe Oursière.

(11) At the Sierre ski resort, stay on the path straight ahead (without going down onto the tarmac). Follow the signs towards La Salle Hors Sac. Pass it and take the dirt track on its right-hand side. Pass the car parks, then a ski lift departure point (the penultimate one in the resort). Continue to a fountain on the right-hand side.

(12) At the fountain, take a faint, unmarked path downhill to the left. After a lovely descent through the forest, join a yellow-red marked trail. Follow it downhill to the left.

In the hamlet of Le Furon (view), continue straight downhill along a dirt track that bends left then right. You’ll reach a tarmac road. Cross it to take a path running parallel below, alongside the Furon stream, for about 500 m.

(13) Ignore a dirt track leading uphill to the left and continue along a narrow path downhill, running parallel to the road (hard-to-see sign ‘Chemin du Patrimoine’). Continue downhill along the stream. In the hamlet of Les Bernards, turn left onto a tarmac road (Impasse du Val Furon). Join the road (Avenue Léopold Fabre), follow it down to the left until you reach the starting point (S/E).

An interesting ride, not particularly technical (the end of the climb is "a bit of a workout").
The climb isn’t particularly interesting (a wide, rough track) but the descent is lovely, with more ‘single track’ paths.

This hike should be classified as ‘easy’ rather than ‘moderate’.
Not particularly interesting from a technical point of view, but fortunately the cave adds a bit of interest to the route.
From point 8 onwards, the scenery is more pleasant.

Thank you for this hiking suggestion; I did it with a group of veterans. We chose the car park at the village hall as our starting point (to make sure we could park several cars). At point 12, we continued uphill to Habert des Ramées, another beautiful viewpoint in a thoroughly pleasant setting. This circular route is well worth doing; it really adds something special to the hike. We covered a total of 15 km with an elevation gain of around 900 m. The group really enjoyed it, despite a fairly steep climb after the Auberge des Allières.

A lovely, varied circular walk.
The detour to the cave is well worth it!

Thank you.

A fairly technical hike due to a very, very long climb that really puts your legs to the test.
But there are some lovely views of Villard-de-Lans and the surrounding area.
