This circular route on the slopes above the Magel Valley is mostly along paths and beautiful forest trails. Views of Guirbaden Castle in the distance, the climb to Purpurkopf, a break at the Chalet-Abri du Verlorene Eck, small wooden bridges to cross small streams, and more beautiful views, particularly of the western side of Mont-Sainte-Odile, are the highlights of this very pleasant hike in all weathers.

This route is the first part of thefourth stage of a seven-day tour of the Alsatian side of the Vosges mountains. Most of the route is on forest roads in good condition. The signage is excellent, consisting of signs with an orange or red mountain bike logo and the letters TMV (Traversée du Massif Vosgien).
