Park in the car park after the Allauch equestrian centre.
(S/E) Go up Chemin du Garlaban then keep right on the DFCI track. Continue in the same direction.
(1) At the Col de Cante-Perdrix trail junction, turn right towards Grande Tête Rouge (signposted on a rock). At the signpost, keep left towards Le Taoumé.
(2) At the next signpost, keep left and climb the path towards Pounche des Escaouprés.
(3) 150 m before the summit, descend to the left via a small rocky path that leads to the rocky plain (yellow markings).
(4) At the bottom, turn right and rejoin the path that runs along the right-hand side of the large DFCI track and eventually joins it at a crossroads. Continue along the track for about 250 m and look for a large pine tree, a small meadow and a cairn on the left. Please note that the area is frequently cleared of undergrowth and the cairn is often broken.
(5) Turn left at the cairn. The tracks are not very visible at first. Continue straight ahead, veering slightly to the left to see a path that leads into the heath. This path leads to Pas du Figuier. Head opposite towards Col de l'Amandier.
(6) At Col de l'Amandier, take the path that descends steeply to the left into fairly dense vegetation. This path runs along the right side of the Vallon de l'Amandier. You will see a ruin on the left, then further along the path, take a small detour to the right to see a well restored in 2020 by a hunting association, the Puits de l'Amandier
.
(7) Return to the path, which winds its way down to a partially paved road.
(8) Go up the road on the left, pass by private properties and follow a fence until you reach a closed gate.
(9) A few metres before this gate, turn right onto the small path that climbs towards an electricity pylon.
(10) Climb up to the left to reach an old bauxite extraction facility and its gallery, which is closed off by a gate. Take the path opposite the facility, which then joins a tarmac road. Follow this road to the left and then, at the crossroads, turn right to reach the car park (S/E).
—a complete change of scenery. Perfect! Even though we had to follow the road for a short distance, I appreciated having a proper car park to leave the car. Between numbers 6 and 7, I thought that when we went to see the ruins, we would see the well restored by hunters, but it's further along the track at point number 7.
