Park in the car park after the Allauch equestrian centre.
(S/E) Go up Chemin du Garlaban, then keep right towards Chemin du Peynaou and continue in the same direction.
(1) At the bottom of the path, take the trail that runs along the left side of the fence of a private property. At Col du Puits Rouge, the trail widens into a track. At the two intersections close together, continue straight ahead.
(2) Take the path that descends to the left and passes by the Pichoun Ome spring. The Baumes des Pestiférés are higher up on the right. After passing the spring, continue on the opposite slope of the Baumes des Pestiférés. Pass by a shed, cross a gas pipe passage, and follow the path that leads to Tête Ronde, heading northeast. You will arrive in a red ochre area.
(3) On the left is thefirst mining site. Climb up through the bushes and cross the embankment to reach two caves on the left. Turn back and continue north-east. On the right, below the mining debris. Pass through the Escaouprés valley and, after a circular up to the left, you will reach a T-junction.
(4) Turn left at the junction, go through the gate and you will come to asecond mining site: a partially blocked cave on the right and, further on, numerous rusty remains (bicycles, equipment, shelter, etc.).
Return to the junction and continue straight ahead eastwards to a large crossroads of tracks, the Col du Sauvage.
(5) Head straight ahead and you will see athird mining site. After about 60 metres, leave the track on the right towards a red ochre area below. The vault-shaped opening is difficult to find in the bushes, but the entrance is clearly visible (see: During the hike or nearby).
Go back up the track to discover a large opening on the left. Visit the site. Continue east then north-east on the track, which winds its way up several bends.
(6) About 20 metres before an inverted Y-shaped junction, leave the track and take a small path on the left that climbs northwards along an old stone wall.
Be careful, as the start of this path is difficult to find due to the dense vegetation.
When you reach the path leading down from Pas du Loup, turn left, then walk past the old ruins of Jas de Bastisto and its fig tree. Just before the barrier, descend to the right at the signpost. After a right-hand bend, look out for a cave in the rocks on the left and the start of a path (west).
(7) Take this steep path on the left, which descends into the valley and then immediately climbs back up (old brown markings, repainted in red). You will arrive at two fire cisterns. Thefourth mining site is located behind the cisterns: a quarry only.
Then climb the DFCI track that passes to the right of Grande Tête Rouge and joins the Col de Cante-Perdrix. At the pass, at an altitude of 390 metres, take the track on the right.
(8) Turn left and you will arrive at afifth mining site.
(9) From this point, on the left, there are four caves closed off by gates. Another cave is located further to the left in the bushes. Continue along the path, keeping straight ahead, until you reach a large clearing with red soil: this is thesixth mining site.
(10) On the right-hand side of the clearing, there is a cave closed off by gates and an old building. Take the path opposite, which leads to a tarmac road. Follow this road to the left and then, at the crossroads, turn right to reach the car park (S/E).
