Description of the walk

Parking is available at Souillac station. This car park can be reached by train or car; it is large and free of charge.

This route is a variation onthe PR® andGR®6, near Souillac station, which connects to Rocamadour and Sarlat.

(S/E) From the station car park, turn right onto Rue le la Fontaine. At the crossroads, turn right onto Rue de Présignac.

(1) At the fork, keep right on Chemin des Combettes and pass under the railway line. Pass at the foot of an electrical substation and turn left.

(2) Ignore the road leading to the Cimetière des Combettes and turn sharply right. Go uphill and pass by the water tower (viewpoint over Souillac). Go around the water tower, continue north on a dirt track and soon turn left. Stay on the main track, heading north-north-west then north-west, and ignore all the side tracks. Pass under a high-voltage power line and arrive at a crossroads (dolmen signposted on the left).

(3) Follow the yellow-marked path to the right (west). Pass under a high-voltage power line and stay on the main marked path, heading west. This will take you to a memorial stone in memory of a hunter. Continue along the marked path to an intersection at a place called Lacombe (EDF transformer).

(4) Then turn left (yellow markings). At a triangular junction, go straight ahead. Continue along the marked path until you reach an intersection near a tarmac road.

(5) Turn left and follow the red and white markings ofthe GR®6. Pass under a high-voltage line and continue on theGR® which winds through a small valley. This will take you to the Marjaudes Viaduct (engravings by resistance fighters on a pillar).

(6) Pass under the viaduct and immediately afterwards turn left (leaving theGR®). Stay parallel to the railway line on your left. You will reach the Pressignac cemetery (chapel).

(7) Follow Chemin de la Chapelle to the left and ignore the narrow streets on the left that pass under the railway line. Continue along Rue de Présignac (C3). At the stop sign, go straight ahead, still on Rue de Pressignac. Cross Rue du Pont d'Aillan on the right-hand side and return to the crossroads you took on the way there.

(1) Then turn right. At the crossroads that immediately follows, turn left onto Rue de la Fontaine and quickly return to the station car park (S/E).

A beautiful hike with stunning views. Don't miss the dolmen at the top. The return trip through the valley is splendid and bucolic thanks to the vegetation.
Please note that the engravings are not on a pillar of the viaduct; they are on the corner of the house on the left as you arrive at the viaduct.

A pleasant, easy route. At the end, you arrive in a valley in the forest with no mobile phone reception, but everything is well marked so it's easy to follow. There's a lovely view of Souillac at the start of the route.

Very hot and stormy weather, so make sure you bring water and a hat if hot weather is forecast. The first part of the walk is along a wide forest track.
There is a beautiful view at the Souillac water tower.
The first part is very pleasant on the climb up the Causse to point 3, but a little monotonous, with few views as the vegetation takes over, but that's how it is!
The second part is much more pleasant, except that we were attacked by horseflies, making it impossible to stop even to drink. It must be said that the weather was stormy throughout the descent. Crossing the walnut groves is very pleasant, except when there are horseflies
We couldn't find the engravings on the bridge pier. A "private property" sign was clearly displayed and a pile of objects had been placed at the bottom of the pier, which was a shame. Nevertheless, the bridge is a beautiful piece of engineering.

When talking about high-voltage lines, you pass over the ridge at the edge of the pylons that support the lines.

You pass under the high-voltage power lines on top of the ridges; there are large high-voltage power line supports on the edge of the path.

Hello
Is it possible to publish them in the reviews section, as previous hikers have not had access to them either?
Thank you

A very pleasant hike with two distinct sections, each with its own charm. The first part on the Causse alternates between open landscapes and forest paths. The path is stony, so hiking boots are strongly recommended. The second part, in a small valley, offers a completely different bucolic environment that is hard to leave. We were disappointed not to see the engravings made by the Resistance fighters on the Marjaudes Viaduct, but a sign saying "private property, no entry" is posted at the foot of the first pillar on the left.
The path taken after point 6 is still marked as a GR
Thanks to the author of this beautiful hike.

Hello,
Thank you for your comments. It's surprising about the high-voltage power lines, because we pass "under" them, on the hillsides. As for the inscriptions, they are engraved on the bottom of the left pier of the viaduct, which is next to the houses. I'll take a photo and post it on the hike. Thank you again for your information, Jean.
