Park in a small square near the hamlet of Cadet, reached via the D21 between Saint-Agrève and the wind turbines (towards Les Nonnières) at the bend where a cross stands.
(S/E) Turn right onto the wide path, heading south-east. Pass a pylon and then a tapped spring to reach Les Grandes Sagnes, a holiday home with a lovely view over the valley.
(1) Continue east along this path to reach, at an elevation of 888 metres, a small plateau-like pass with a tree that makes this spot easily recognisable from a great distance.
(2) Set off straight ahead along the path. At the next fork, turn right onto the footpath. Walk alongside the hamlet of La Terrasse. You’ll reach the hamlet of Le Peyron, which has a spring. Turn left onto a small path running parallel to the road leading to Le Vernet.
(3) Follow the road for a few metres; at the bend, turn left, heading due north, onto the path that climbs above the meadows and joins the Chemin du Cros.
(4) Turn right; after a hairpin bend, you’ll come to a T-junction. Turn left onto the path that winds down to the small road leading to Chabane.
(5) Turn right onto this road. Pass through the hamlets of Château Neuf and La Rouveure. Continue and, after the hamlet of Les Vignes, reach the Y-junction at the entrance to Désaignes.
(6) Turn left and wander through the narrow streets to explore the village. You will arrive at the Town Hall Square.

(7) Head south-west along Rue des Écoles. Pass the fire station, continue on and you’ll reach the junction with Chemin de la Châtaigneraie.
(8) Turn right onto this road, continue along Rue des Hauts du Colombier; at the right-hand bend, you’ll come to a crossroads with a footpath.
(9) Take this tiny path on the left, about fifty metres long, between two houses, to join the track heading towards Les Jouves.
Continue along this path, heading due west, which climbs steadily up to Sautereaux.
(10) Take the path on the left to reach the hamlet of Les Riailles.
(11) Leave this hamlet on your left and continue along the wide path, passing above the hamlet. You will soon reach the junction at the 766m mark.
(12) Turn onto the path on the right; this is a shortcut that takes you back to the track as you approach La Grande. Leave the track again and take a path leading to Jouangrand.
(13) Climb a few more metres, rejoin the wide path on the left, and follow it to reach the car park where you started (S/E).
