Description of the walk

Head to the former Châteaulin railway station, now the Maison du Vélo. You can park in the adjacent car park.

(S/E) With your back to the Maison du Vélo, cross the road (D887) and turn right. Take thefirst left, the Venelle de Kerstrat, and follow it to the end.

(1) Turn sharply left, head up the Grand Rue and pass the Collège Saint-Louis, built in 1866, on your right, and the eponymous secondary school on your left. Immediately afterwards, you’ll reach the road known as the Allée Verte.

(2) Turn left, follow the road through the neighbourhood and, at the bend, you’ll come to a grassy path.

(3) Follow it straight ahead to reach the D887.

(4) Cross it carefully and continue along the track opposite. Pass close to a farm and continue along the road for about 150 m. Take the small grassy path on the left and continue until you reach a road near a tennis court.

(5) Follow this road to the left for about 150 m to pass through a residential area. Continue along the path through the woods, which is the old railway line: there’s a lovely view of the River Aulne and, towards the end of the path, of the Châteaulin bridges.

Carry on to the playground, leaving the road on your right that leads to the old railway viaduct, and you’ll reach the car park (S/E).

It starts off with a bit of road, but then turns into a wooded path and follows the old railway line – a very pleasant walk along the canal
in glorious weather

Too much tarmac, but the wooded area is very pleasant, especially in hot weather.
Picnic facilities and benches are available along the route.

There’s a lot of town and country lanes at the start, but the end of the route is absolutely lovely. The town is a really lovely place.
