Description of the walk

Park in the car park opposite Saint-Waast Church.

(S/E) Leave the car park and head left. After the bridge over the Hogneau, turn right onto Rue du Vieux Chemin, then left onto Rue Laurent Niogret.

(1) Take the old RN9 to the left for 20m, cross at the pedestrian crossing, then follow Chemin du May to the right, which runs alongside the Ruisseau de Marvi. This picturesque path is lined with hedges. Pass under the old railway line, then continue left at the statue of the Virgin Mary, who is widely venerated in the region.

(2) Leave the valley floor and head up to the left onto the plateau. At the next junction, turn right towards La Cambuse.

(3) Turn right again onto the stony path towards the blockhouse. Join the RD942. Turn right and pass the campsite and the Cambron farm.

(4) After the chapel, turn left onto the dirt track. At the farm, turn left then right onto Rue de la Ruelle. You will reach the Gantois Chapel, the town hall, the school and the village hall in Bermeries.

(5) Turn left onto the RD154, then left again onto Rue du Partiau.

(6) Turn right onto the lane, then left to cross the village. At the T-junction, turn right, then first turn left then right onto the RD942 and head towards the hamlet of Pissotiau – in local parlance: ‘petit ru’, meaning ‘stream’. Continue straight on to L’Hogneau, where you can see the remains of an old mill.

(7) Follow Chemin des Boules to the left and rejoin the old RN49.

(8) Turn left to return to the church and the car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

Cambron Farm

This12th-century tithe barn belonged to Cambron Abbey in Belgium, now known as Pairi Daiza Park. The porch is topped by a dovecote. Opposite, the15th-century chapel is attached to the Cambron estate.

(5) Bermeries has no church; the commune has only a simple chapel built in 1872 in the hamlet of Gantois. In 1876, at the request of the municipal council, the Archbishop of Cambrai authorised a low mass to be celebrated there every Sunday.

A lovely route through small villages with pretty houses, plains and local crops, but not very shaded
during this heatwave.

An easy walk. In wet weather, make sure you wear waterproof shoes for the grassy sections, where the grass was a bit long.
Passes through some lovely little villages.

What a glorious spring day! We set off from Cambron Farm, a remarkable building, along a pleasant grassy path, and the return route was just as lovely. The rest of the route was mostly along quiet tarmac roads. An easy and fairly short walk combining beautiful scenery and pretty villages with scattered houses.

Hello,
A pleasant and easy walk, although we did it after several days of rain,
with the paths flooded in places, but if you take care and wear good shoes, it’s doable.

Hello, we went on this walk yesterday in the sunshine and it was lovely. It’s an easy walk. We took our dog with us.
Be careful, though: there are two sections where you have to walk along the main road, but if you keep well to the left, there’s no danger; you can walk on the grass verges alongside the road.
In short, a lovely walk just the way I like it 👍
