Park in the car park of the Musée Départemental Forum Antique.
(S/E) From the car park, head left, then right. Make your way to Place Charles de Gaulle, where you turn right (Avenue de Louvignies). Once on
the RD 932, turn left towards Avesnes-sur-Helpe then immediately right, follow Rue des Allées. Follow it down to the War Memorial and turn left onto Rue Fréhart. Pass in front of Louvignies Church. At the right-hand bend, leave the tarmac road and take the stony path (barrier). You will arrive in front of the Lavoir des Foulons.
(1) You will arrive at the Lavoir des Foulons. The grassy path continues beneath thick foliage, running alongside springs and rushing streams; it leads you to the Mulet fountain, which gives rise to a new stream, the course of which you follow until you reach the Bavay stream. Cross the stream via the wooden footbridge.
(2) The path runs alongside the river, overlooked by a structure as imposing as it is unusual: the Pont Blanc. Cross the railway line. Along the path, new springs flow. Hazel trees dominate the landscape. You’ll reach the crossroads at the Ferme de Fréhart.
(3) Here, the landscape becomes more rugged. On the right, the typical Fréhart farm comes into view. Turn left onto the path known as the Chemin de Soriau. Looking back, you’ll see a sweeping panorama from which the church spires of Bavay and Louvignies rise. This path is sheltered from the north wind by a thick hedge of thorns, home to a variety of birdlife; it joins the road known as the Voie Vineuse.
(4) Turn right and follow the road to the Col du Long Buisson, whose 145m summit is marked by an official sign.
(5) At the pass, take the Chemin de Fréhart (GRP®) to the right, following a hairpin bend.
(6) At a fairly sharp left-hand bend, head straight on along the grassy path known as the Chemin des Boeufs, which opens up a sweeping view of the Roman town.
You will come to the fork in the road at the Fréhart farm.
(3) Follow the original route in the opposite direction to return to the car park (S/E).
