The route starts at the old Rougé railway station (parking available).
(S/E) Take the Voie Verte, a former railway line converted into a cycle path, towards Teillay for approximately 1.8 km.
(1) Turn right at the crossroads, then take the first road on the left and carry on to the next junction.
(2) Turn right onto the red-earth track (the colour is due to the presence of iron) and cross over the River Brutz. Continue along the path, then turn right uphill.
(3) At the top, on the left, a sign provides information about the site of the former iron mines. Cross the D163 (caution: dangerous crossing). Turn onto the second path on the left to see the surface facilities of the former iron mines. The tunnels cannot be visited as they are completely flooded.
(4) Return to the previous crossroads. Then continue to the left.
(5) At the wayside cross, cross the road (take care). Continue straight ahead towards l’Orée des Bois (wayside cross on your right) and La Reboursière.
(6) Walk through the hamlet, then follow the edge of the Bois de la Garenne (caution: this area may be prone to flooding in winter). Continue on and pass under the power line. At the Y-junction, turn left towards Les Landes Brûlées.
(7) At the road, turn right at the Beau Vallon wayside cross and, at the top of the hill, turn left.
(8) As you turn right towards Les Haies, you’ll catch a glimpse of the bell tower of the village of Fercé. Carry on and cross the hamlet of Les Haies, turning left towards the D44. When you reach it, turn right (watch out for cars). Leave the road onto a dirt track on the left and walk through La Bloterie. Follow the road to the right, then turn left at a right angle to reach the village of La Grée Pothin and walk through it.
(9) At the bend, take the grassy path on the left, then the footpath on the right. Turn left at the next T-junction.
(10) Walk alongside the River Brutz below and pass the Oratory of La Salette. Then take the path to the right, then left onto the county road (be careful – poor visibility, dangerous stretch).
Turn onto the first road on the right, then turn sharply left towards the Swin-Golf (dirt track) and carry on straight ahead, leaving the Swin-Golf on your left. Take a path on the right uphill, then turn left twice in succession (view of the Étang des Vallées) and finally turn right to head down towards it. Join the road on the left.
(11) Cross the bridge and climb the hill to the D163. Cross with care. Head back up towards the village centre, taking Rue du Puits Neuf opposite. Turn right, then left onto Rue du Haut Beauvais.
(12) Walk alongside the side of the church where you can see the statue of Saint Joseph. Follow the main road towards the Voie Verte to return to the starting point (S/E).
