Description of the walk

Park in the car park near the old Scrignac railway station.

(S/E) Head towards Carhaix for about 1 km along the old Morlaix–Carhaix railway line, which has been converted into Greenway No. 7, La Vélodyssée.

(1) After Moulin de Lidien, turn right to enter the Huelgoat State Forest.

(2) At the top of this climb, at a junction with a forest track, carry on straight ahead for about 50 m, then turn right. Continue straight ahead for 600 m to emerge near the hamlet of Beurc’hoat.

(3) Carry on to the right along the tarmac road for 750 m until you reach the hamlet of Kergreac’h.

(4) Go straight on until you reach the three-way junction about 200 m away, then turn left to reach the hamlet of Squiriou.

(5) Turn right onto a local track, then turn right onto a wide path. Cross a local road, then the D42, and continue towards the national forest for about 200 m.

(6) Before reaching a stream, turn right onto a shaded path and rejoin the D42.

(7) Cross the D42 again, carry on straight ahead and pass through the hamlet of Liorzou, then further on turn left onto a deep, sunken track leading back to the D42.

(8) Turn right, then head down the road towards the starting point, about 450 m away (S/E).

Shortly after point 5, the condition of the path starting from the signposted junction 214 put us off, and we took the road to Liorzou. It must be said that it rained almost all day... The sheltered picnic tables at Scrignac station were much appreciated (even if they could do with a bit of refurbishment).

A lovely walk, but it’s very tricky at this time of year. The paths are muddy (frequent tractor traffic has left ruts).
