Route along the banks of the Ter in Ploemeur

Car park available and bus line, Saint-Mathurin stop, nearby.
Starting point: Saint-Mathurin Plœmeur car park, on the edge of the Étang de Saint-Mathurin

(S/E) At the far end of the car park (near the toilets), head to the banks of the Étang de Saint-Mathurin and turn left.

(1) Continue along the lake, ignoring the turnings on the left.

(2) Turn right at the playground, before the barrier. Continue along the pond until you reach the road.

(3) Cross the pedestrian crossing on the left, then turn right and left to reach the Kermélo Pond opposite.

(4) Continue as close as possible to the shore, ignoring the paths on your left. Turn right and continue along the wide path that passes near the Youth Hostel and the Ter Water Sports Centre. Before the road, turn right onto the path on the right and go up to the right on the gentle path to cross the bridge.

(5) Take the path on the right and return to the lake. Continue along the shore, ignoring the turnings on the left.

(6) At the Vieux Moulin dyke, turn right and continue along the bank until you reach the Digue du Moulin Neuf.

(7) Turn left and cross the road, taking care before the bend. Take the path opposite and then the one on the right at the end. At the next junctions, continue straight ahead. In the forest, keep to the right, staying as close as possible to the Étang de Saint-Mathurin, to return to your starting point (S/E).

- River Ter: 25 km of waterways.
- Saint-Mathurin Pond: created in 1756, fed by fresh water from the Ter, named after the locality and its chapel (destroyed during the Second World War).
- Natural areas on the banks of the Ter: site of community interest in Lorient Agglomération, sustainable management of 89 hectares.
- Kermélo Pond: created in 1967 during the construction of the Kermélo bridge-dam, brackish waters.
- Youth hostel (1977): designed by architect Roland Schweitzer, a remarkable building integrated into the hillside, combining concrete, wood, aluminium and glass.
- Kermélo crossing: ferry, then bridges in 1838 and 1919, causeway bridge with sluice gates in 1967.
- Keroman / Lorient la Base: village transformed into a submarine base (1941-1944), converted into an offshore racing port, nautical, tourist and cultural centre.
- Kermélo fountain and wash house
- Dyke of the old Ter mill: first mill of the Ter seigneury (attested in the 15th century), a site ideal for observing water birds.
- Moulin Neuf dyke: mill in operation from 1756 to the 20th century, with a sluice gate regulating the water level of the Saint-Mathurin pond.
- Beech forest with holly undergrowth: former park of the Ter seigneury, laid out around 1736.
