Description of the walk

Park in the car park at the Salle des Nouelles (19 Rue de la Loire, 44430 Le Landreau).

(S/E) Walk along the right-hand side of the pond to the road, cross over, turn left and then immediately right onto the shaded path. At the three-way junction, take the right-hand path, cross the footbridge, and walk up through the vineyards to the small village road, a few metres from the Stop sign at the junction with the D307.

(1) Head down to the left with your back to the Stop sign, then turn right between the trees and vines. Follow this path towards Route de Briacé and turn left until you reach the pillars, with the school in the background.

(2) Carry on straight ahead. At the Stop sign, cross the D55, continue to the ‘dead end’ sign and turn left to head back up through the vineyards towards four pillars.

(3) Turn right towards the village of La Barbonnière, which you cross, then head through the vineyards and take a small path to cross the Route du Clos des Poëzes. Weave your way through the vineyards (a few yellow signposts), skirt the pretty wine-growing village of La Bazillère on the left, to reach the D37. Cross the road and follow the stony path uphill to the first houses of the Beauchêne mill.

(4) Turn right just before the crossroads to go round La Choletterie on your left. Continue straight on through the vineyards, then enter a shaded path. At the end of the path, turn left and continue, passing the village of La Halverdière, until you reach the final pillars near the D55 road.

(5) Take the hairpin bend to the left, then turn right into Rue des Camélias. After about 100m, near a fire hydrant, a narrow lane on the right leads to the D55. Cross over towards La Sauvagère, then turn left to reach the D37. Cross this road and head back to the Les Nouelles complex via the Coulée Verte.
Cross the pedestrian crossing and head to the hall’s car park (S/E).

Worth a visit

(1) Take the time to admire this landscape of Muscadet vineyards, with the city of Nantes on the horizon.
Along the path, note the pillars that marked the boundary of the Château de Briacé estate in the last century.

(2) In the background, we come across this college offering courses in agriculture, viticulture, market gardening and general education, which prepares students for entrance exams to engineering schools.
Established around 1950, this college is already training the third generation of agricultural professionals and is renowned for the quality of its teaching.

(3) This 360° panorama highlights the location of this historic estate: a high-quality vineyard, relatively frost-resistant and producing a renowned Muscadet that frequently wins awards in competitions.

(4) Another view of the vineyards!
(5) The last few pillars before we head back! How many are there?

Morning hike with the supermoon at Landreau, a magnificent route in a commanding position on a clear day, offering views over the Stream vineyards and as far as Nantes. The route traces the boundaries of the Briacé estate, with its pillars still visible among the Muscadet vineyards

A slightly overcast but mild morning. The route is very well signposted and pleasant to follow. There are no real highlights, but it’s a peaceful, rural setting. Beautiful vineyard scenery and a narrow sunken path overrun with stunning large white flowers; it will only last for the brief time the flowers are in bloom, but it was truly delightful.

A pleasant, peaceful route.
Clear skies, so lovely views of Nantes.
A minor issue, though: the narrow path crossing the Route du Clos des Poëzes is very narrow and full of nettles. It has also been blocked by wheelbarrows. No doubt the farmer isn’t too keen on this path.

A lovely route with beautiful views of Nantes.
It’s just at point three that you need to turn left and then right again to get back on the route...
In fact, the intended path is blocked by bales of straw and wire... not great!
And then there are two signs telling us that the route has changed... which is fine for those doing it in reverse!
.
Just a quick personal note: I think there are a lot of abandoned or uprooted vines...

Due to a lack of signage and markings, we are driving around the village of Le Landreau; the bell tower serves as a landmark
