Start at Les Prés de la Vavre. Free car park available at Impasse de la Vavre.
A large sign shows the three “Balades Vertes” routes in the commune of Montpont-en-Bresse.
(S/E) Leave the lake on your right and take the path on the left which goes round the buildings of a Bresse farm. Continue along the path on the right until you reach Route de Lhomont.
(1) Turn left and continue along this road until you reach the junction with a wide track.
(2) Turn right onto this stony track. Pass a pond on your right, go through the woods and join the Impasse des Rippes Loisy. Carry on straight ahead until you reach the Route de la Chapelle-Thècle (D39).
(3) Turn left and take thefirst right onto Route des Bois. Continue along the edge of the Bois de Montpont until the next junction with Route de Ménetreuil (D101).
(4) Turn right, continue for 450 metres and turn left onto Route des Fougères. Continue along this tarmac road to the farm, then take the stony track that crosses the fields to the junction near a pond with Route de Corgeat.
(5) Turn right, going round the pond, and take thefirst right towards the water tower. Go past the water tower.
(6) Turn right to head across the fields to the Impasse d’Ardignat, then onto the Route de Ménetreuil (D101). Turn right and go up the short hill to the Route d’Ardignat.
(7) Turn left onto the Route d’Ardignat and continue along this road until you reach the Route de la Chapelle Thècle.
(8) Turn left onto the Route de la Chapelle Thècle and head downhill to the Croix Colas, ignoring the Route de la Vavre on your right. Watch out for traffic here. There is a fine example of traditional Bresse architecture, the Grosse Grange, on your left as you go downhill.
(9) Just after the recycling collection point, turn right and go round the two ponds on the right to return to your starting point near La Vavre (S/E).
