Description of the walk

Park in the car park behind the church in Cressac-Saint-Genis.

(S/E) With your back to the church, turn right towards the hamlet of Chez Rochefort, pass between the ponds and follow the road to the crossroads.

(1) At the crossroads, turn left towards Blanzac along the D449; drive carefully as there are many bends, and continue to the next crossroads. Turn left towards Cressac and follow the D7 ( drive carefully) to the next crossroads.

(2) Turn right towards the Chapelle des Templiers, go straight on and pass through the hamlet of Le Temple. As you leave the hamlet, stop to see the Chapelle des Templiers, which is on your left – the last building.

(3) Continue along the road until you reach the three-way junction about 400 m further on; turn slightly left towards La Maine-Blanc and take the grassy path on the right, almost directly opposite. Follow the path to the T-junction.

(4) Turn left onto this long path running alongside a stream and ignore the turnings to the left. About 50 m before you reach a road, turn left and follow the path until you reach a road. Turn left, head towards the hamlet of Chez Joumier and continue to the first house on the right.

(5) Turn right just in front of the house, pass by a well, turn right and head down alongside the fence. Head towards the pond, pass between two ponds, continue to the road and the hamlet of Le Verger, and follow the road to the T-junction.

(6) Turn right onto the D434 and, after about a hundred metres, turn left. In the hamlet of Chez Naudon, take the second road on the left, then the first road on the right and pass by a well. At the last house in the hamlet (on the right), turn left onto a grassy track, follow it to the road and the hamlet of Le Maine Lusseau, and continue to the T-junction.

(7) Turn left along the road, continue to the next junction and turn right. Carry on to the hamlet of Les Grands Aunais at the junction with the D46.

(8) Cross carefully and take the path opposite; it’s not very visible as the grass is often quite tall for a few metres. Follow this path and pass by a pond on your left. Continue along the path and, as you come out of the woods, turn right. Follow the edge of the woodland; there isn’t really a path, but you can walk along the edge of the woodland. Continue to the junction with a cross-path.

(9) Turn left onto this main track and carry on straight ahead. At the hamlet of Chez Trognac, carry on straight ahead along the small grassy track. Follow this track to the fountain and the wash house; go past the wash house, turn left and continue to the junction with the road.

(10) Go straight on, due north, follow this road to the village of Cressac-Saint-Genis, turn left and then right to reach the car park (S/E).

We covered this route in two circular loops; nothing out of the ordinary to report; the directions were all clearly signposted, and I’d like to congratulate my fellow walkers who go to such lengths to enable more people to enjoy their discoveries.

A magnificent hike! Challenging, yet a real treat for the heart and the eyes!
Hilly landscapes bursting with colour!
A must-see stop at the Templar Chapel with its 13th-century frescoes!
Thank you, Visorando!
