Description of the walk

Park in front of the Daon campsite on the banks of the Mayenne (a few spaces).

(S/E) From the campsite, walk up Rue du Port towards the bridge. At the junction with Rue du Pont, turn left towards the village for 80 metres until you reach a three-way junction marked with a calvary (in front of the fire station) and turn right onto Rue du Tourniquet.

Continue along Rue du Tourniquet until you reach the junction with Rue Dominique Godivier and turn left. Continue for 45 metres and turn right into Impasse Buron. Continue to numbers 9 and 11.

(1) Take the path on the left between these two houses. After 80 metres, this leads to Rue de la Croix Renard. Turn right, then 25 metres further on, turn left onto the grassy footpath (signposted one-way except for residents/footpath). Take this path to reach a junction with a small tarmac road.

(2) Turn right and continue straight on until you reach a place called Torcé. The tarmac road gives way to a farm track (gravel/grass).

(3) At the T-junction, turn left and take the path through La Cocuère (on your right) until you reach a junction with a tarmac road (wooden calvary opposite).

(4) Turn left, then turn right onto the grass and gravel path that runs alongside the stone wall of La Suhardière. Continue for 1.5 km until you reach a Y-junction.

(5) Turn right towards the farm at Sancé and cross it to reach a T-junction with a small tarmac road. Turn right here, pass La Gauberdière (on the left) and continue to the junction with the D148 (calvary on the right on the embankment).

(6) Turn right onto the D148 and continue straight ahead.

(7) Where the road curves to the left, go straight on along the tree-lined path, which is an old Roman road (the entrance to the path is marked by a raised stone and a small pond on the right-hand side of the path).

Follow this path for over a kilometre until you reach a junction with another path, where you should not miss the view of the Château and the Chapelle de la Fautraise on your left. Turn right. At the start of the path, you will see the Château des Lutz on your right. Continue until you reach a Y-junction.

(8) At the junction, turn left onto a tree-lined path and continue until you reach a small tarmac road. Turn right and follow this road until you reach the junction with the D213 (signposted "Daon 2km" opposite).

(9) Cross the D213 and continue straight ahead on a very small tarmac road for 500 m (passing La Savaterie on your left) until you reach a junction with a slightly wider tarmac road. Turn right, pass Château de Mortreux on your left and join the D213.

At the junction with the D213, turn left until you reach the Chapelle de la Tremblaie (white chapel on the left).

(10) Just before the chapel (hiking sign indicating "Daon"), turn left. Walk along this small road, which continues as a farm track, until you reach the junction with the D601 (wooden calvary on the right at the end of the track).

(11) Turn right onto the D601 to reach a place called Les Grandes Places. Just after this, the D601 curves to the right. In this curve, take the tree-lined path on the left between the two embankments. Continue along this path until you reach the cemetery. Walk along the cemetery to reach the junction with the D22.

(12) Turn right to follow the road (caution: busy road). Turn left onto Rue du Roquet and continue to the bridge. Cross Rue du Pont and continue straight ahead to Rue du Port and the Daon campsite to complete the route (S/E).

A very beautiful hike enjoyed as a couple in November 2022. The landscapes are typical of Anjou and southern Mayenne.
There is little tarmac. Beautiful paths lined with large oak trees run alongside meadows and beautiful residences. We saw two deer. The path is well marked, the description is clear, and the map is clear. You can easily walk past the farms. We set off at 11 a.m., had a picnic halfway through, and returned around 3:30 p.m. Thank you for this walk, which we found interesting.

I can't comment on the description, as I just printed out the map.
It was a very nice hike that I did in trail running mode, a wonderful discovery of the bocage and the beautiful houses of Daon.
