Gennes-Longuefuye and Petit Pineau circular route

The Gennes-sur-Glaize and Longuefuye circular route will take you through the countryside of southern Mayenne. In particular, you’ll pass by the Rouérie orchards in Longuefuye (where they produce cider, pommeau and apple juice). This route then continues on to the Petit Pineau circular route.

Description of the walk

Park in the car park at Gennes-sur-Glaize town hall.

(S/E) With your back to the town hall, turn right towards the east for a few dozen metres and, at the three-way junction, take the left-hand path relative to the wayside cross (Rue des Étangs). Carry on straight ahead until you reach the pond, walk round it, then continue along the gravel path at the far end of the car park to the left of the hiking sign. At the junction, leave the access to the hamlet of Le Moulin on your left and continue to the right.

(1) At the hamlet of Longue Touche, turn left heading due north onto a country lane. This turns slightly to the left and then, further on, to the right. Cross the Ruisseau du Pont and head uphill opposite for about 200 metres.

(2) At the junction, carry on straight ahead (north). Cross a small road and take the tree-lined path opposite. You’ll come out onto another tarmac road (D610).

(3) Turn left onto the road. Pass the cemetery (on the right), then carry on straight ahead until you reach the junction with the D154. There, at the pedestrian crossing, turn right and follow the small path which is circular and loops through the copse. Return to the junction, turn left, then immediately right into the car park after the 30 sign. Head to the far end of the car park on the left, then turn right onto Rue du Lavoir. Follow this street until thesecond junction.

(4) Turn left onto Chemin de la Saint-Martin and carry on straight ahead until you reach a four-way junction.

(5) Carry on straight ahead. Pass through a barrier to join a tree-lined path. Cross the stream again and head uphill. Ignore a path branching off to the left towards the road and continue south. You’ll come out onto a tarmac road; pass the recycling bins and, at the roundabout, carry on straight ahead onto Rue du Vollier. Follow this street until you reach the junction with Rue de la Division Leclerc (D28).

(6) At this junction, there are two options:
- turn right to continue the route
- turn left to extend the route via the Petit Pineau route as described here.

Turn left, then right at the first junction (D589, signposted ‘Chatelain 5 km’). Continue straight on for just over 600 m until you reach a three-way junction.

(7) Take the left-hand track and carry on straight ahead. Pass the hamlet of Bozé (on the left) then, 150 m further on, turn sharply left at the sign for “Les Petits Pineaux”. Follow this small road until you reach a farm on the right. There, a path branches off to the left.

(8) Take the path branching off to the left and follow it all the way until it joins a small tarmac road called Rue des Loisirs. Carry on straight ahead to rejoin the D589, turn right and carry on straight ahead until you reach the Stop sign. Turn left.

(6) Carry on to the first junction and turn right onto Rue de la Priorie. Turn left as the road bends and follow it north-west. Ignore the road on the right leading to Les Priories and carry on until you reach the hamlet of Les Echeletteries.

(9) A path branches off opposite you at the bend. Take this path and, at the next junction, turn right, then carry on straight ahead to the four-way crossroads you passed earlier.

(5) Go straight on. Cross the D154 and continue straight ahead onto Rue Saint-Aventin. At the end of this street, take the grassy path that starts to the left of a house and turns right behind it. After a series of three bends – left, right, left – you’ll reach a three-way junction. Turn right here and continue along the path to reach the hamlet known as Le Moulin Mouchard.

(10) Turn left onto a tree-lined path and continue straight on for about 200 m.

(2) At the T-junction you passed on the way there, turn right. Cross the stream again and follow the route back in the opposite direction to reach the town hall of Gennes-sur-Glaize (S/E).
