Go to the car park at the orientation table near the town hall in Réauville.
(S/E) Leave the car park and head straight towards the village via Rue du Rocher, then take Rue de Montjoyer opposite, which goes uphill. Continue straight ahead, ignoring the paths on the right and left. At the Clave wood sign, turn left and walk alongside a field of solar panels.
(1) Leave the path and turn right onto a small stony path that runs alongside solar panels and descend via a stony path.
(2) At the sign for "Ruines de la Chapelle de la Sainte-Famille" (Ruins of the Chapel of the Holy Family), continue straight ahead, crossing the Vence river.
(3) Turn left at the edge of the woods and continue along a north-west track. At the rocks, continue straight ahead.
(4) At the green barrier, continue along the path opposite, still following the track. Ford the Ruisseau du Rang stream.
(5) At the end of the track, turn right onto the D550 tarmac road towards the village.
Enter the village, pass the church and the wash house and continue straight ahead.
(6) Keep to the right until you reach the fountain in Place Saint-Paulin. After the fountain, turn left onto the small lane with an archway. At the end of this lane, turn left onto a dirt track heading north. Pass under the high-voltage power line, veering to the right. Continue until you reach a track. Turn left towards the wind turbines.
(7) About 600 metres before these wind turbines, take the path on the left into the woods, then left again at the crossroads at altitude 404. Join a tarmac section, turn left until you reach a technical room on your right.
(8) Turn left towards a fenced enclosure. Go around it on the left and at the end of it, keep to the right to rejoin the path towards a pretty viewpoint over the village of Montjoyer.
(9) Retrace your steps to the technical building.
(8) Now turn left, over the low stone wall (on the left) and continue to the tarmac road. Turn left and then, at the crossroads, continue left towards the village.
(6) Take the same road as on the way there until you reach the sign for the end of Montjoyer.
(5) Take the same route back as on the way there, turning left. After a left-hand bend, take the small path through the young trees on the right.
(4) Keep to the right as you descend to reach a large field of truffle oaks. Once there, cross the field and take the dirt track on the right-hand corner.
(10) Join theGR®429. At the junction on the right towards the monastery, follow the fence and the wall of the Trappist monastery. At the end of the wall, continue straight ahead, cross the Ruisseau du Rang stream and join the D550.
(11) At the green barrier, go downhill, following the road on the left for 100 metres (there are some pretty rocks on your left). At the last rock, take the tarmac path on the left and then immediately take the stony path on the right.
On the way down: on the right, note the memorial and the calvary in a micro garden. The cave of Notre-Dame de Lourdes and below, the memorial to the monks of Tibhirine. You can visit the basilica and the Hostellerie.
After your visit, head to the car park where you will find a shop selling products from various monasteries in France. Leave the Abbey by following Route d'Ayguebelle on the left and walking along a hedge of green cedars.
(12) At the end of the hedge, take the tarmac road on the left and then the path that descends towards a green barrier and on to the small bridge over the Vence, then climb up into the woods.
(13) Climb up, keeping to the right and using the rope handrail to help you. On the left, at the top, you will see the Calvary. At the edge of the woods, walk along the olive grove to the ruins of the Chapel of the Holy Family and its three magnificent statues.
(14) Continue climbing until you reach the next fork.
(2) At the top, turn right to return via the same route you came and return to the car park with the orientation table (S/E).
