Route of discovery of the centre of Ronchamp

Most people come to Ronchamp to see the Notre-Dame-du-Haut Chapel. However, there are a few other places of interest to discover in the village centre and surrounding area, such as the Ronchamp spinning mill, the Mining Museum, the Sainte-Marie Well and Ronchamp Church. This is a completely urban circular route designed to showcase Ronchamp's heritage. It is of course possible to combine this visit with another hike.

Description of the walk

Start the walk in Ronchamp at the car park at the junction between Avenue Pasteur and Rue du Tram.

(S/E) Head towards the intersection and take Rue du Tram on the left. At the car park, cross it on the right to pass between the village hall and Le Rahin. Cross a second car park to enter Square des Jumelages.

(1) In the square, turn right to cross Le Rahin. On the other side, turn left and then right to reach Rue Le Corbusier. At this street, turn left and take the first street on the right, Rue de l'Égalité. Go under the railway line and turn left at the crossroads to reach the remarkable entrance gate to Ronchamp cemetery.

(2) Turn back and go left onto Rue de la Cure. Pass Impasse des Anciens d'A.F.N and continue to the stop sign. Go up Rue de la Chapelle on the left and turn right onto the access road to Puits Sainte-Marie.

(3) Return to the road, go down it and pass under the railway bridge. At Rue Le Corbusier, Notre-Dame du Bas Church and the tourist office, follow the road to the left. Then take the bend and arrive at the town hall.

(4) Continue straight ahead, pass the Mining Museum, cross the Rahin and return to the starting point.

(S/E) Stay on Avenue Pasteur and walk up this avenue to the war memorial on the right. There is a train at this square. Continue along the street to see the wooden school.

(5) Return to the war memorial via the same route and turn right onto Rue Strauss. Cross the river again and continue to the spinning mill (signposted on the right). When you reach the spinning mill car park, turn back and turn right onto Allée du Canal, which runs alongside the Rahin river. At the town hall car park, turn left until you reach the junction from the outward journey.

(4) Turn left and continue straight on to the starting point (S/E).
