Route de découverte de Turckheim

Park on Place de la République.

(S/E) Cross Boulevard Charles Grac and head for the square on the other side. Go round the bust of Charles Grac on the left and walk along the Fecht towards the bridge. Cross the bridge and follow the street to the cemetery. Enter the cemetery to see the Saint-Symphorien Chapel.

(1) Turn back towards the bridge over the Fecht. Cross the river and follow the Quai du Docteur Joseph Pfleger on the left. Then turn right towards the Porte de France.

(2) Continue left onto Rue du Tir. Cross Rue des Fossés and then Rue des Écoles. At the end, turn right onto Rue du Tir towards the Porte de Munster.

(3) At the gate, you’ll find the sign ‘Turckheim, a fortified town’. Turn left onto Rue des Tuileries and head towards the Turenne Monument.

(4) Return to the Porte de Munster.

(3) Take the cul-de-sac on the left. At the end, continue along the narrow path on the left, which runs alongside the old ramparts. At the end of the path, continue along the cul-de-sac before turning right onto Route de Niedermorschwihr at a cross, passing close to the sign for “Les Lochshlupfer des remparts”. You’ll reach a tower near the car park.

(5) Turn back and turn left along the Jardin des Remparts. On Rue Grenouillère, continue to the right, passing the “pluri-activité” sign and the car park. Leave Rue de l’Est on your right, then the church car park on your left, as well as Rue Sainte-Anne, to reach the Porte du Brand.

(6) Walk up Rue des Vignerons. At Rue du Conseil, turn left towards the former manor house of the royal provost, passing the former residence of a member of the Sovereign Council, now the Museum and Memorial to the Battles of the Colmar Pocket. Return to Rue des Vignerons and follow it to the left. Carry on straight ahead to the Porte de Munster, ignoring the streets on your left, including Rue des Forgerons. Shortly after this street, pass the remains of a square tower before reaching the gate.

(3) Turn left onto the Grand’Rue. Pass a Renaissance-style house – the birthplace of the founder of the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Joseph of Saint-Marc – a^{16th–17th-century} butcher’s shop, the Maison Huen, and the Auberge à l’Homme Sauvage, before reaching Place Turenne, with the Turckheim Fountain. Turn left to walk between the small park and the former inn “A l’Aigle”. Walk round the town hall on the right to see the Church of Sainte-Anne, which houses an organ dating from 1755.

(7) Return to the fountain and head straight on towards the Porte de France.

(2) Turn left to return to the car park (S/E).
