Route de découverte de Soultz-Haut-Rhin

Park at the Parking des Chaudronniers car park.

(S/E) Cross the car park and take the street opposite, leaving Rue des Charpentiers on your left. At the crossroads, turn left then right onto Rue des Vignerons to reach a playground and the Promenade de la Citadelle.

(1) Follow this promenade to the left. At the end, turn left onto Rue Jean Jaurès until you reach the "À la Couronne" inn.

(2) After reading the information panel, return to the junction with the Promenade de la Citadelle. Pass a fountain on your left. At the next junction, turn left and admire the "Schaecher" oratory on your right. At the roundabout, take the right-hand exit. Then turn left at the cross onto Route de Raedersheim. Enter the cemetery through the main entrance, then turn left to reach the Saint-Georges Chapel.

(3) Return to the cemetery entrance and follow the road to the right. At the first crossroads, turn left onto a track between the houses to cross the remains of the Soultz railway line for the first time.

(4) Stay on the same track. At the end of the street, turn left and then right onto another street, which becomes a track that runs alongside the remains of the old railway line. At the end, you will find the entrance to a bunker.

(5) Turn left and continue left along Rue de l'Abattoir. At the end, turn completely left before turning right to reach a memorial stone. Go up the street on the right. At the end, cross Rue de la Marne at the pedestrian crossing, go around the bakery on the left, then immediately after, take the passage on the left. At the church, turn left to reach the war memorial and Place de l'Église.

(6) Walk along the church on your right, then turn right and walk past its entrance. Continue straight ahead until you reach the stop sign. Turn left onto Avenue Charles de Gaulle. At the crossroads, turn right onto Rue Jean Jaurès. Pass the Rimbach and the Nef des Jouets (on your left). At the traffic lights, continue straight ahead, walk past the pharmacy and then cross diagonally across a car park. Then enter a park. Cross it diagonally, continuing straight ahead until you reach the former Capuchin monastery of Saint-Maurice, now Soultz Hospital.

(7) Turn completely left onto Route de Guebwiller. Then continue straight ahead until you reach Rimbach. Once you reach the stream, go up the pedestrian lane on the right. Cross Rue du Château Fort and continue straight ahead on Rue Saint-Jean. At the end, turn left, then take the first street on the left down towards the temple.

(8) Continue down the street. At the end, turn left onto Rue du Château Fort before turning right onto the bridge towards the castle and Place du Bucheneck.

(9) At the car park, turn right onto the street. Then go down Rue Jean Jaurès on the left and take the first passage on the right to reach Place de la République and its fountain.

(10) Walk up the street. At the end of the square, turn right at a right angle, then left onto Rue des Vosges. Continue straight ahead for two intersections. At the bend, stay on the street, passing close to the house "Auf der Holler" and the old synagogue. At the end, walk up Rue du Maréchal de Lattre de Tassigny to pass in front of the statue of Saint Maurice.

(11) Continue until you leave the street, passing Château Waldner and Résidence Delevieuse. Leave the Promenade de la Citadelle for later and turn left towards the roundabout, where you will find a mural dedicated to Paul Bouliu.

(12) Take the first exit towards Jugholtz. Continue to the entrance of number 22, located just before the gendarmerie. The driveway is private, so do not enter it and stay on the main road. At the end of this driveway leading to number 22 was an old mill. Then return to the roundabout via the same route.

(12) Take the leftmost exit, then after the small car park, turn right and immediately right again onto Promenade de la Citadelle. Continue along this promenade until you reach the junction from the outward journey.
