Go to Montmaur and park in the car park in front of the castle or next to the tennis court.
(S/E) From the castle entrance gate (commemorative plaque to Antoine Mauduit), head west on Chemin Neuf (D320). Walk along the castle park wall until you reach a small square at the end of the street (fountain).
Turn left (south) onto the small road to Veyne and continue for about 150 metres.
(1) Turn right onto Chemin de la Colline. Immediately, at the first bend, go straight ahead onto a grassy track that climbs the Entre Serre hill and leads to a small building next to the pylon (views over the valley and the foothills of the Aurouze mountain).
Descend via the access track to this pylon, rejoin Chemin de la Colline and turn right to reach the D320 at the Faysses calvary.
(2) Cross the main road (take care), follow the small tarmac road opposite (Chemin des Faysses) and then leave it for a track on the right that leads to Chanronde (south-west).
(3) Just before the track joins the D320, turn left onto a small road that heads south-east and joins the intersection of Chemin de la Chapelle and Chemin de la Brillanne.
Turn left towards the north-east and continue to a crossroads with a cross (Calvaire de la Plaine) not far from the Sainte-Philomène Chapel.
(4) Walk about 50 metres north on Chemin de la Plaine, then turn right onto the grassy track that climbs up to Sainte-Philomène Chapel on its small promontory.
(5) Note the tomb of Antoine Mauduit with its stele (a cross in the shape of a marine anchor, reminiscent of the insignia of the 12th REI that he wore in 1940, but also a reference to Sainte-Philomène).
Walk around the chapel to see the remains of an ancient building to which it was attached. Then walk back down and turn left to return to the Calvary of La Plaine.
(4) Turn left towards the east and cross the hamlet of La Plaine. Follow the small road that leads back to the D994 (La Roche-Veyne road).
Before reaching the D994, turn left onto a wide stony track that heads north. Follow it straight ahead, either through the undergrowth or along the edge of the woods. Soon, the Château du Terrail comes into view (view of the square tower).
(6) Walk along the right-hand side (note the round tower on the north side) and follow the small access road to join the D937A, which is the road leading to Montmaur. Opposite, there is a new calvary.
Follow this road to the left for about 50 metres, then take theGRP® trail "Entre Dévoluy et Bochaine" on the right, which climbs up to Serre Vieux.
(7) When you reach a cairn, leave this path and take another, less well-marked path that descends to the left. You will have to climb over or around two or three fallen trees.
Reach the bed of the Rif Lauzon stream (dry) near a house and the small road to its right (Rue du Champ du Brigadier).
When the road turns south (after 20 metres), go straight ahead on a path that leads to the houses further west. This short crossing ends at a small track between houses. You will reach Route de la Montagne (D320).
Go down it to the left, then turn right onto Rue de Soubrevières, which takes you to the top of the village. The descent to the bottom of the village is up to the hiker. For our part, we went down Montée du Rompecul, then joined the small square and turned left onto Chemin Neuf (D320) to the starting point (S/E).
