Cerin can be reached by climbing up from Lhuis or from Serrières-de-Briord via Lompnas. Park in the small car park in front of the palaeoecological museum.
(S/E) Opposite the car park, head west down Rue du Clos to the bottom of the valley and cross the Brive river near an old mill.
(1) Head up the steep forest path opposite, cutting straight across the slope; it crosses a track and then curves, becoming less steep, before joining the road at the hamlet of Vercra.
(2) Turn right. The road becomes a gravel track and descends gradually, veering to the left. On the slope, it makes a hairpin bend in the forest (which can be bypassed via a shortcut) then a second bend to the left to descend past the vineyards at Pinivon.
The path enters the forest again, passes a junction overlooking the Haute-Roche stream and, 100 m further on, reaches an open bend before plunging back into the forest on the right.
(3) From this bend, a path branches off to the left, descending towards the stream and reaching the top of the Chosas waterfall (Caution: the path leads directly to the cliff edge).
(4) Several paths lead back, but given their condition (fallen trees), the easiest option is to turn back to the marked path.
(This unmarked round trip to the top of the Chosas waterfall is optional for those who are unsure about attempting it)
(3) Return to the marked path which descends north-east, then, after a ravine, turns north-west and then north to descend the Courtaudière to La Brive, which has a footbridge.
(5) Climb the steep path opposite up the slope, which leads to a tarmac road coming from Chosaz, the Chemin du Grapillon.
(6) Take this road level with the path on the right; it crosses cultivated fields and enters the forest again. Continue straight on due east to descend to the Brive and stay on the right bank of the stream, ignoring the paths branching off to the left. The path thus reaches the beautiful Brive waterfall and its pool.
(7) Head up to the left along the cliffs to climb over a rocky outcrop; the path then levels out and even descends again towards the Brive to reach an old mill (ruins and millstone) and then a bridge crossing the Ruisseau du Gros Pertuis.
(8) Once you have crossed the bridge, head up the wide path opposite, which joins a forest track, leaving the Brive to your right. At the top of this climb, turn right at the junction onto a track that winds its way up in wide bends, leaving the forest and entering Marchamp.
(9) Cross the village and climb above the cemetery to a junction at Luèpe.
(10) Take the small road (Chemin de Lueppe) leading down to the right to Cerin, where you follow the Rue Principale to the museum (S/E).
. The path that continues towards Marchamps, to the left of the waterfall, is difficult for about 200 metres and impressive because it is practically on the side of a cliff. I wouldn't risk it in wet weather... After that, you return to the restful undergrowth along the river. The return between Marchamps and Cerin is very exposed to the heat and has very little shade.
