From Innimond to Ordonnaz in a circular

I suggest a lovely walk between Innimond and Ordonnaz along the ridges (Mont Pela, Le Grand Pertuis and Le Mollard de Don), then across plateaus between forests and meadows. Along the way, you will enjoy beautiful panoramic views of the Alps.

Description of the walk

Start from Innimond, at the beginning of the road leading to the viewpoint and the paragliding site (next to the wash house). Parking spaces are available.

(S/E) Head east on the path towards Ordonnaz (as indicated on the signpost). You will be following a good section ofthe GR®®59.

(1) A little further on, take a path on the right as indicated by the signposts: be careful of the cliff. Shortly afterwards, you will come to a fork in the path.

(2) Head left uphill, climbing some steep slopes at times, following the yellow and white-red markings.

(3) Head towards a calvary on the left (nice viewpoint).
Go back a few metres, then turn left and head almost due north to reach a viewpoint not far away with a beautiful view to the east of the Grand Colombier and the Alps (with a possible view of Mont Blanc).
The path then runs alongside a fitness trail. You will come to a large open space.

(4) After passing the paragliding take-off area, head straight uphill towards an orientation table (viewpoint offering a beautiful view).
Continue straight ahead on the uphill path. The path then runs almost horizontally on Mont Pela on a clear spot facing west.
Reach Le Col du Grand Pertuis at a crossroads of tracks and paths.

(5) Continue almost straight ahead, veering slightly to the right, following the signposts (do not take the path opposite, which climbs uphill).
At thesecond fork, continue to the right, following theGR®® trail (the path on the left leading to Molard de Don is valid but is steeper).
Reach the summit of Mollard de Don.

(6) Turn right onto the path (following the signs).
Further down, you will reach a large open space at Les Yvoires.

(7) Continue straight ahead on the small tarmac road.

(8) Shortly afterwards, at a fork, leave the road and follow the path on the right for about 1 km.
Rejoin the road and follow it for 200 m.

(9) Take the path on the right, following the red and whiteGR®® markings.
You will rejoin the road. Continue straight ahead for a few metres until you reach a crossroads.

(10) Turn left onto the RD94a road for about 150 m, then continue on the small road on the right until you reach a crossroads at the entrance to the village of Ordonnaz.

(11) Turn completely left (south-east) onto the RD94 road towards Lompnas for about 700 metres.

(12) At a bend in the road, take the path almost opposite into the Combe d'Innimond (no signposts).

(13) Turn right at the junction with another path and, shortly afterwards, take a slightly less marked path opposite, heading uphill (the one on the left is a dead end).
After an uphill section, you will come to a fork (follow the yellow markings).

(14) Turn right onto a path with a fairly steep descent (take care!).
Once you reach a meadow, the path is fairly even but not very well marked. You will come to a fork at Les Chanaux.

(15) Continue straight ahead towards Innimond. You will reach a fork in the path.

(16) Continue straight ahead and join theD94A.

(17) Continue right towards Innimond (S/E).

Note that Innimond is locally spelled Innimont.

Worth a visit

  • Calvaire des Portes: close to the Chartreuse de Portes, a viewpoint with an orientation table offers a beautiful view.
  • Lac d'Ambléon: this is a lovely place that I encourage you to visit. For more information, click here

I also encourage you to continue along the beautiful road to Saint-Germain-les Paroisses (RD41).

A very beautiful hike, without any difficulty, done in the opposite direction to suit the hot weather. Varied landscapes, sometimes low mountains, sometimes wooded countryside, with the village of Innimond and its 400-year-old Sully lime tree. Magnificent.

Superb walk. Very pleasant, without any real difficulty. Magnificent views. On the way back, we stopped for a drink at the home of a charming lady in the village. Then we visited the nearby goat farm. A wonderful day!!!

Hike done under beautiful winter sunshine. The ground was only frozen in a few places, so we managed just fine with our walking sticks for support. Because it was winter and the trees had no leaves, we really enjoyed the first part with the ridges: a sea of clouds and a great view.
On the way back, I was a little worried about the tarmac, but we quickly rejoined a very pleasant dirt track.
In the area around La Cula, the path was no longer very visible, but the GPS helped us avoid getting lost.
It took us 5 hours and 10 minutes to complete the hike at a good pace.

A pleasant climb without any particular difficulties before reaching the summit to admire the view (but unfortunately it was foggy).
I didn't particularly enjoy the section on tarmac (before and after Ordonnaz), but then we passed through a very pleasant valley before returning to Innimond (a pretty little village).
Hike completed in 5 hours 45 minutes without running.

A very beautiful hike through woodland and meadows. Magnificent views when walking along the ridges. The description is clear and there is no risk of getting lost. The time indicated in the description is overestimated (7 hours 5 minutes). A good walker can do it in 4 hours.

Departure at 9:30 a.m., return at 5:45 p.m. after a few detours due to our inattention. Very nice weather, mild temperatures.
A two-part walk between a route along magnificent ridges (Mont Pela and Mollard de Don) overlooking the Rhône valley on one side and the Alps on the other, followed by a more bucolic second part through valleys, woods and pastures.
Without GPS, there were no major difficulties except after point 14 in finding Les Chanaux at point 15. We cut across the pastures; there is only one possible direction anyway.
