Route Daniel Vitry in La Bourgonce

An easy route around the western part of the village, with beautiful views of the village and the surrounding mountains. This route is named after Daniel Vitry, a member of the Raon-l'Étape Club Vosgien, who worked to develop hiking in La Bourgonce.

Description of the walk

Start from the church square where the motorhome service area is located. A large free car park is available.

(S/E) Head south-west, passing between the town hall (on your right) and Saint DenisChurch(on your left). Watch out for traffic, as the pavements end at the town hall. At the intersection after the cemetery, take the road on the left which gradually climbs (Anneau Vert signposting). Pass a water reservoir on your right.

(1) Shortly afterwards, at a fork, turn right and, at the second fork immediately after, turn right again onto a small road.

(2) At the next fork, turn left onto a path (still following the Anneau Vert signs).

(3) You will rejoin the road at the Vère Martin forest house. Follow it to the left. Ignore a road coming from the right and, at the next crossroads (elevation 405), go straight ahead onto a path.

(4) At the T-junction, follow a small road to the left. At the next intersection, turn right at the hairpin bend. Continue to follow the Green Ring markings until you reach the D7.

(5) Carefully make a first turn left then right turn to take a small road to the north. Cross a stream and arrive at a crossroads.

(6) Turn right twice (Anneau Vert signs) and descend slightly. Cross the hamlet of La Gayère and ignore another road on the right. Continue along open terrain (beautiful views).

(7) At the intersection, keep right and descend towards the village.

(8) At the T-junction, turn right and cross the Valdange. At the next T-junction, turn left, then right into Rue des Écoles. At the end, turn right and you will quickly return to the car park where you started (S/E).

Description of the route, still valid as of early 2026: a pleasant walk around the village (western section), with very little elevation gain. A bit too much tarmac for my liking, but the paths are quiet. No difficulties to report along the route. Several water points along the way for dogs.
