Circular route between Villechenève and Chambost via the footpaths

Park in the car park of the community hall behind the cemetery.

(S/E) Head towards the sports ground and then take the path on the left. At the junction towards La Grange farm, continue straight down the unpaved track until you reach the tarmac road, marked ‘Le Haut Fetel’, and head towards Chambost Longessaigne. 100 metres further on, at the ‘Le Fetel’ signpost, turn left, still heading towards Chambost Longessaigne.

(1) At the junction of Chemin du Joux and Chemin de la Red Cross, continue straight on along Chemin du Joux.

(2) When you reach a house on the left, Chemin du Moulin and three letterboxes, do not continue straight ahead but turn sharply left onto the path with the drainage channel, which is marked by a large sign. At the tarmac path, turn left, following the yellow signposting. Go straight on and do not take the path on the right. At the junction with the main road and Chemin du Bobet, continue right onto the main road.

(3) Immediately, turn right at the Le Trêve signpost, towards Chambost-Longessaigne.

(4) Join the concrete path on the left, walk between the houses and turn left towards the village. At the junction of five paths, go straight on and enter the 20 km/h zone. Once in the village, head towards the church and its lovely square (toilets just behind the church). Go under the porch to reach Place de la Bascule, turn left and cross towards the town hall.

(5) At the signpost for Le Bourg, head down to the left onto Chemin Profond. Continue down the slope to the roundabout and carry straight on towards Longessaigne Saint-Laurent. Follow the A-road until the next path on the right.

(6) Cross the Ruisseau des Granges via a small iron bridge, climb up to the houses (a steep climb) then go round the house on the left.

(7) At the signpost marked “Le Darcet”, turn left towards Longessaigne. At the end of Impasse du Darcet, turn right onto the main road.

(8) After 200 m, turn left onto Chemin du Chole and stay on this tarmac road, marked in yellow, until you reach a three-way junction.

(9) Keep left, do not take Impasse des Joncs, and head towards the houses. At the signpost “Le Chole”, continue towards Longessaigne. Go round the farm and take the path up to the left. At the top of the path, on the tarmac section, turn right. Cross over and follow Chemin de la Chamotte.

(10) At La Croix des Mines, go straight on towards a small house. At the junction, turn left following the orange MTB markings. At the La Croix des Mines signpost, take the upper path on the left and follow the yellow markings.

(11) At the tarmac road at Chez Sève, turn right then left onto the Chemin de Font Froide. When you reach the farm at the bottom, continue to the right. At the top of the path, join the tarmac road towards Chambost Longessaigne and take it to the left.

(12) After Les Cueillettes d'Amélie, turn left and, at the next junction, head up to the right onto Allée du Plat, then turn left. Cross the courtyard of the house and continue straight ahead, slightly to the right, following the yellow markings. Just before the ‘Les Granges’ signpost, turn left onto a dirt track marked for mountain bikes. At the bottom by the farm, take the hairpin bend to the right. At the end of the path, heading towards the house, go up to the right and, at the bottom of the path, join the tarmac road.

(13) Turn right onto the D7.

(14) At the Chemin du Chanet junction, turn left, cross the Ruisseau les Granges and, at the Sourd crossroads, turn right. At the Chanet junction, by the Yellow Cross, continue straight ahead.

(15) At Chanet-Est, turn left onto the Côtes, Chemin du Thévenet. At the top, near the factories, go round them on the left then turn right towards the village.

(16) At the Grande Croix wash house, take a sharp left and head down to the main road.
Cross the road, keep to the right and continue along the path towards the town hall. Below the church, head towards the library, take the small path on the left which leads to the town hall car park, then cross the square and head left to return to the starting point (S/E).
