10,000-STEP TRAILS: EASY AND INTERMEDIATE ROUTES IN ALBI

Route proposed by the Maison Sport-Santé of the OMEPS in Albi.

A walking route in the heart of Albi, linking the two banks of the Tarn and allowing you to discover the city’s main landmarks.

Two levels are available to suit everyone’s abilities and goals.

The easy route is designed to get everyone moving again. It involves walking to Parc Rochegude, going round it, then returning to the starting point, the footbridge. The intermediate route extends the walk towards Parc de Pratgraussals, allowing you to gradually increase the duration and distance.

These routes allow you to reap the initial health benefits, even with a limited amount of walking, provided you walk regularly and at a moderate intensity (between 4,000 and 7,000 steps a day).

They form part of an initiative to promote daily physical activity, demonstrating that the benefits appear well before reaching 10,000 steps.

Description of the walk

Parking is available at the Pratgraussals car park, which accommodates both cars and motorhomes and is situated right next to the route’s starting point. From the car park, leave the cemetery on your left to reach the start of the Chemin de Pratgraussals at the Tarn river and the footbridge.

(S/E) Cross the footbridge towards Albi town centre, then turn left towards the square.

(1) Walk past #Albi and continue straight on towards Sainte-Cécile Cathedral.

(2) Walk along the right-hand side of it. At the end of the street, continue to the right until you reach Place Lapérouse.

(3) Cross the square and head straight ahead to Rochegude Park.

(4) Then walk around Parc Rochegude and exit via the same route you entered.

(4) Return to the starting point by following the route in reverse.

(S/E) This marks the end of the so-called “easy” route. If you feel up to it, you can continue along the route.

Take Rue de Lamothe on the left towards Pratgraussals Park. Then enter the park, turn left and walk around the lake. Continue to the dog park.

(5) Then take the path on the left above the Pratgraussals lake.

(6) Walk past the tennis courts, go round the park, then take the footbridge to return to the starting point (S/E).
