Departure from the burons (stone huts) of Cantoin, near the tennis court.
(S/E) Walk along the tennis court, go up the road and then walk along a campsite. Continue climbing to the end of the road.
(1) At the entrance to the village, turn right (north) onto the road towards Pont de Tréboul/La Bastide. Cross the D98 road and continue north-east on a small road. After about 400m and before the farm buildings, turn left onto a gravel path. At a fork, follow the path on the right and climb straight up to Puech des Fourques.
(2) Turn left (north-west) and begin the descent towards Vines, ignoring a path on the right. At elevation 931, turn left (west-north-west) and descend to the Vines cemetery. Turn left again (west) to enter Vines.
(3) At the crossroads, turn right and, at the fork immediately ahead, follow the right-hand path towards Roqueplane. At the next crossroads, turn left uphill. At the fork, take the left-hand path and you will immediately come to the Bagpipe Museum.
(4) Head back up towards the centre of the village and take the second right towards the church, where you can enjoy a magnificent view of the Sarrans dam. Retrace your steps and, at the crossroads, continue straight ahead (east) on the road towards Cantoin. At the junction with the road coming from the left, turn right.
(3) Head south on the D123 road. After the fountain ("Abr." on the map), take the first path on the left that goes uphill. At the crossroads (altitude 955), continue straight ahead. At the top of the hill, there is a viewpoint over Vines and the Plomb du Cantal (north) and over Cantoin and the foothills of the Aubrac plateau (south).
(5) At the crossroads, continue south and descend towards Cantoin. Join the D123 road and follow it to the left. Pass the cemetery and continue straight ahead to enter the village of Cantoin. You will arrive at the central square with its church and shops. Continue south and take a series of first turn left then right turns to return to the fork you took on the way there.
(1) Follow the same route as on the way there to return to the starting point (S/E).
