Description of the walk

In the village of La Terrisse, park in front of the church on the side of the D34.

(S/E) Walk to the statue of the Virgin Mary, a few dozen metres away, and leave the D34 by taking the street on the right.

(1) At the crossroads where a long avenue of chestnut trees leads to the cemetery, take the first street on the left. Follow this road as it winds and descends slightly.

(2) At the crossroads, turn left and rejoin the D34 (Route d’Huparlac). Cross the D34 carefully and immediately take the forest track opposite, which climbs steeply before veering to the right.

(3) At the junction with a clearly marked farm track, turn left onto it until you reach a sharp left-hand bend as you descend.

(4) Leave this track and take another grassy track heading straight ahead. Note a stone wayside shrine on the left. Ignore the shaded track descending to the right and follow the track you have just taken until you reach the Route du Lac des Chèvres, about 1.4 km away.

(5) Turn left onto this road. After a few dozen metres, continue straight on, leaving the road leading to La Terrisse on your left. A few dozen metres further on, leave the Route du Lac des Chèvres, which turns right and descends towards the Venzac reservoir, and take the farm track straight eastwards. Stay on this track, ignoring the track that branches off to the left 200 m further on.

(6) Leave the grassy path on your right (this path descends towards the Venzac reservoir) and continue north-east. The track is no longer gravelled from this point onwards. A little further on, there is a viewpoint over the Petit Selvet valley and the Venzac reservoir.

(7) Leave the main track, which climbs north-west, and take the track branching off to the right, heading due north, down towards the hamlet of Danton.

(8) Cross this hamlet by taking the small tarmac road heading west on the left. Join the D34, which you should always cross with care, then follow the small road opposite towards the hamlet of Huplergues.

(9) At the entrance to the hamlet, take the road on the right at the three-way junction. This road goes round the hamlet, running alongside the buildings. It gradually turns into an unpaved track. Ignore the path leading down to the right into the hamlet; stay on the same track (heading generally north-west). This track descends for about 400 m after the last building in the hamlet, then turns sharply left to join the D537 at a small storage area for road and construction materials.

(10) When you reach the D537, turn left, walk past the football pitch and take the first right as you enter the village. When you reach the avenue of chestnut trees leading to the cemetery, turn left and continue straight on to the church of La Terrisse. Pass in front of a statue of the Virgin Mary and a fountain before arriving at the church (S/E).

To start with, skip the section marked 2: there’s nothing to it, apart from one descent and one climb. Take the D34 towards 3. There are some lovely views after 4 and all the way to 8.
