Park at Saverne train station.
(S/E) Looking towards Saverne train station, turn left into Rue du Vieil Hôpital, which runs alongside the tracks. Turn left quickly onto a path along the Zorn. Then cross the Rue du Vieil Hôpital.
After 100 m, a small tunnel on the right takes you under the tracks and up Rue de la Côte.
(1) Once on the Route de Paris, follow the red rectangle signs to the right, then to the left 100 m further on. Reach a fork in the road. Continue straight ahead on the Promenade de la Schlitte to the next fork.
(2) At the calvary erected in 1889, turn left along the Promenade de la Schlitte to a road.
(3) Turn right towards Ramsthal and the Étang du Ramsthal. Follow the red triangle signs along the Fontaine Mélanie stream to the fountain fork.
(4) Turn left before the wooden shed and cross the stream to reach the fountain. Keep walking following the red triangular signs. The path crosses a track and joins the Route Forestière de Ramsthal at the Fontaine des Bavarois.
(5) Follow the yellow triangle markings. The path crosses a track and joins a small road at the forest house.
(6) Go left towards the Maison Forestière du Schweizerhof. Follow the red ring signs to Grotte Saint-Vit.
(7) During the summer months, it is possible to walk down to the cave through a flower garden.
Head due north and follow the blue rectangle signs.
(8) At this inconspicuous intersection (altitude 399), follow the blue rectangle signs to the left.
(9) At this intersection, note the cart tracks in the stone at the exit of Château de Greifenstein.
(10) Follow the blue rectangle signs.
At the Château du Grefentstein sign, a path leads up a stone staircase to the towers.
A wooden staircase leads up to the first tower.
Beautiful view of the Château de Hohbarr and the two Geroldsecks castle.
To leave the castle, follow the blue rectangle signs and the little red castle signs. Reach the railroad at a large intersection of roads and tracks.
(11) Turn left onto Promenade de la Schlitte, do not cross the tracks on your right.
After 50 m, take the wooden bridge on your right and return to the fork in the road.
(3) Enter the fitness trail along the stream on your left.
(12) After the balancing course, turn right, then right again, passing under the railroad line and emerging along the Canal de la Marne au Rhin. At the traffic lights, climb the stairs to reach the canal. Follow it eastwards. Pass under the Route de Paris. Turn left into Grand Rue, then right into Rue de la Gare and return to Saverne Station (S/E).
). My hiking "partner" found the signs a bit limited; I found them correct from the Calvary onwards.
