Access to the starting point: from Saverne, take the D132 towards Lutzelbourg. Turn right onto the road towards Étang du Ramsthal and park before the level crossing.
(S/E) Cross the level crossing and turn right, then right again. Cross the bridge on the right and follow the stream on the left. Turn left at thesecond bridge, cross the bridge and the path at the Parc de la Metzgermatt sign.
(1) Go up the path on the left (fitness trail). Turn right onto the path marked with a yellow disc, then right again. Cross a path and continue along this path. Turn onto the path that goes up to the left. Turn onto the path on the right, then onto the path on the left. Cross one path, then another.
(2) Turn left onto the path (marked with a blue and yellow rectangle divided diagonally, which does not appear on IGN maps). At an overhanging rock, turn left onto the path that runs along the bottom of the Kaestenberg cliffs.
(3) At the Grotte du10e B.C.P., turn right towards Route des Pandours.
(4) At the T-junction, turn right, following the yellow disc markings. Pass by the Koepfel gazebo.
(5) After the Kaestenberg sign, turn left towards Fontaine Mélanie via the Sentier des Menhirs, marked with a yellow ring. Continue along the path and then along the trail. Cross a path.
(6) At the fork, go straight ahead towards Route des Pandours. Turn right onto the old forest road.
(7) Turn left onto Chemin des Pandours. At Carrefour Uspann, cross a path and continue along the trail.
(8) Turn left at the junction onto Fossé des Pandours, marked with a yellow triangle. Turn left onto the path and then immediately right onto the trail. Cross a path. Turn left onto the path.
(9) At the Fontaine Mélanie junction, turn right, walk past the fountain and climb the path towards the Fontaine des Bavarois and the Schweizerhof (marked with a yellow triangle).
(10) Turn right (marked with a red triangle), cross a bridge, turn left then right and climb this path to Rocher du Breitkopf. Beautiful view of Saverne and the plain.
(11) Descend via the same path.
(10) Turn right onto the path marked with a yellow triangle. Cross a path and climb the path opposite.
(12) At the Fontaine des Bavarois, cross the road and turn left onto the path marked with a yellow triangle. Cross a path
(13) At the Schwerhof Forest House (Schweizerhof on the map), turn left onto the road, which becomes the Blue Ring marked path. Descend the path on the right.
(14) Immediately afterwards, turn right towards Rappenfels.
(15) Turn back at the Rappenfels viewpoint. (Possible detour to the Marienfels rock).
(14) Continue along the path to the Saint-Vit Cave.
(16) Take theGR®531trail marked with a blue rectangle towards Greifenstein Castle. At the three-way junction, take the middle path marked with a blue rectangle. Turn right at the three-way junction.
(17) From the castle, follow the path marked with a green ring towards Marienfels. At the T-junction, turn left. Turn right towards Étang du Ramsthal (marked with a yellow easel). Cross a path, then turn left. Cross another path, then a road. Cross the bridge and turn right. Turn right onto the road and return to the car park (S/E).
