Description of the walk

(S) From the lodge, walk up through the village along the main street heading north-east.
Leave via the road that serves the hamlets of Le Villard and Le Tioure. Stay on theGR®5-GR®58(signposted) until you reach Le Villard.

(1) At the crossroads at the exit of Le Villard, turn right towards Le Tioure, pass the chalets of Rabinoux, and you will reach another crossroads.

(2) Turn left (sign dedicated to Philippe Lamour) and start climbing up the mountain pasture. At an altitude of 2,519 metres, leave the path connecting to the Col Fromage on your left and head north to the Col des Estronques.

(3) For those with IGN maps, change here to 3637OT.
At the pass, take the path on the right that leads to Tête de Jacquette, where there is an interesting viewpoint.

(4) Return to the pass.

(3) Descend south then east towards Le Raux. First pass by the Puy hut.

(5) Then cross the Curlet torrent and the Moulin bridge to reach the hamlet of Le Raux.

The Gabelous lodge is the former residence of customs officers. It is a magnificent building with rooms that reflect the era when this residence was used to guard against smuggling.

Worth a visit

La Tête de Jacquette: beautiful viewpoint overlooking Saint Véran.
Saint Véran: the highest commune in Europe, with its typical houses and church.

A superb day's hiking from Ceillac to St Veran. Just one small downside: the price of drinks at the St Veran inn.
Indeed... four beers... 50 euros...😒.

Hike completed as part of the 8-day Tour du Queyras, Ceillac/Ceillac without bag transfer.

A magnificent hike to the Col des Estronques, where we were welcomed by the local chatterbox! The last few bends before the pass were a little steep.
We put on crampons to cross the last snowfields for about 300 metres from the pass, with a lot of snow still present this year.
The descent to St Veran is long but very pretty, with a contrast between the green of the larch trees, the stones and the blue of the sky.
Difficulty at the foot of the waterfall in St Veran. There was a lot of water in the river due to heavy snowfall in May and a late thaw.

A nice climb.
Camping is possible when heading towards Col Agnel.
The climb to Saint Veran is tough after a long day.

A beautiful hike, the Tête de Jacquette is well worth the detour. The hike is advertised as moderately difficult, but in fact it is comparable to others that are advertised as difficult (such as Maljasset-Ceillac). Afterwards, we can discuss how to distinguish between moderate and difficult...

A very beautiful hike, the Tête de Jacquette is more than interesting; it is a must-see for the views it offers. Allow a little extra time to stay there if the weather is very good.
