Description of the walk

Park in the car park of the Jacques Mancardi stadium and the village hall on the RD921 in Nolléval.

(S/E) Leave the car park and turn left until you reach the crossroads, then turn right at the church.

(1) Cross the road opposite the church to see the Sainte-Anne fountain and statue, not far from the Andelle river. Return to the road, follow it to the left, cross the two bridges over the Andelle, pass the old Nolléval station on your right and continue to the next crossroads.

(2) Turn right onto Rue Sainte-Anne and follow it to the end, where it continues to the right along a path. Continue straight ahead along the Andelle river on your right, pass a shed on your left and join a road. Follow it to the left for about ten metres.

(3) Turn right onto Chemin de la Forge. Pass under the high-voltage power lines and continue through the copse at the edge of the woods, with the Andelle river still on your right. You will reach the D57 road.

(4) Take it to the right, then just before the bridge, turn right. Walk along the Andelle on your left, then cross it. Admire the Château de la Reine Blanche and its outbuildings on your right, then turn left onto Route de la Reine Blanche for about 50 metres.

(5) Turn right onto the paved lane called Chemin du Mont Calo, which continues as a stony path at the edge of the woods and ends as a dirt track. Remember to turn around to admire the surrounding panorama.
Continue until you reach thefirst grassy path on the left, Chemin de Morgny (the signpost is hidden in the bushes on the right).

(6) Follow it until you reach a small road. Turn right and take thefirst path on the left, Chemin de la Mare Chouquet.
A little further on, if the path is flooded, go up to the left along the edge of the field. Continue along the edge of the hedge of shrubs on your right until you reach the road.

(7) Turn right, then keep left at the three-way junction, following the sign for "La Mystacrie" (spelled differently on the map). Walk to the bend.

(8) Go straight ahead on the path that crosses the plains and enjoy the view on your left. Ignore the paths that branch off to the left and continue towards the water tower until you reach a road.

(9) Follow it to the left and then, at the crossroads, continue to the right. Go straight on at the Grands Genêts bend, then after the last houses, continue along the path through the fields. Join a road and follow it to the right for about 50 metres.

(10) Take the second forest path on the left (thefirst one is not shown on the IGN map). At the "Route Forestière du Mont Aimé" sign, continue until you reach a junction of several paths.

(11) Take the middle one. Reach the edge and turn left, continuing on and ignoring the next path that turns left. Pass under the high-voltage power lines.

(12) Follow the curve of the path as it turns right towards the houses. Pass them and reach a road junction.

(13) Go straight ahead at the sign forChemin de La Bouvellière and continue along this lane, which turns into a grassy path between the fields. Follow it down to the RD921.

Cross it carefully, continue on and pass the chapel in the hamlet of Montagny. Cross the bridge over the Andelle and you will reach the crossroads you came to on the way out.

(3) Climb the grassy path between the fieldsopposite , then enter the woods, following the field on your right until you find the path that turns sharply left, avoiding the paths marked as private (the layout on the ground is different from that on the IGN map).

(14) Take it to the left, then at the Y-junction, follow the path on the right. Climb up, then turn left at the top, continue on and follow the descent, which continues into a narrow street. You will reach Rue Marceau Revert.

(16) Turn left, pass the (2) and (1) and continue to the church. Turn left onto the RD921 and return to the car park (S/E).

Notes

Please note: the names of streets and paths on the ground sometimes differ from those shown on the IGN map. Only the names actually encountered on the route are indicated in this description.

There are ruts in some farm tracks, making them very muddy: gaiters are recommended in wet weather!

Worth a visit

(1) Saint-Aubin Church in Nolléval (often open) and the Sainte Anne Fountain opposite it.

(2), at the left corner of Rue Sainte-Anne, observe the statue of Sainte Anne, which is embedded in a house.

(3) Saint-Leu Chapel in the hamlet of Montagny.

Hello,
in light of the comments regarding the ladders and the tricky crossing of the field at the end of the route (WPT 11 to 13), I have carried out a new survey and am modifying the route accordingly from WPT 11 onwards.

A very pleasant walk with some lovely surprises: the White Queen's manor house, the little chapel at Montagny..
Personally, I didn't have any ladders! 🤷🏼♀️
I don't think I took quite the same route at the end. At point 11, I followed the PR towards La Chapelle de Montagny.

We didn't like this route, perhaps we would have enjoyed it more in dry weather. We didn't like the muddy paths in the middle of the fields, we didn't like the descent to Nolléval from point 11 in the middle of the fields with the ladders to climb over the fences. We were expecting a bucolic path between the starting point and the hamlet of Normanville along the Andelle. Instead, we got a muddy path with an impassable section in the middle of a graveyard of forestry, agricultural and public works equipment, accompanied by an illegal rubbish dump, and the Andelle remained at a distance.
Only the hamlet of Normanville and its Château de la Reine Blanche found favour in our eyes.

Hike completed in February =) You don't meet many hikers when the weather is nice, so at this time of year LOL
What's more, it was 15 days after the floods in the Pays de Bray, so the terrain could have been impassable, but we tried anyway.
In the end, we managed to get through everywhere. The paths are wide, so we were able to slalom between the remaining puddles.
The landscape is hilly in places, which is nice for the horizon. At the end, we enjoyed a panoramic view of Nolléval.
On the last kilometre, we took the wrong side after the farm. We took the field on the left when we should have gone right through the turnstile, so we had to go back.
After the first ladder, which is NOT easy for a novice hiker to climb (because it is half unsealed and therefore leaning), we wondered: Where is the path?
Thanks to Visorando's GPX route, we crossed the field a bit at random and found the path below. Note: you have to go down because at the first ladder, you are at the top of a hill and Nolléval is below.
The view is our reward.

The ladders do have the red and white GR markings, but the route must not have been revisited by the FFR for a while.

Varied landscape (we follow the Andelle river from quite a distance), no difficulties, one tricky section in wet weather: the final descent into the field.

An easy hike along paths crossing plains and trails in the woods, with some beautiful views of the rolling plains of L'Andelle. However, from point 11 onwards, having to walk through fields (which, fortunately for us city dwellers, were not occupied by cows that day) can become very stressful. There are also some very narrow iron ladders that can be difficult for older people. It would be worth seeing if this part of the route could be avoided by taking another route. Thank you to the author for this hike.
